🌟 This month, we’re proud to spotlight our members Crowther & Sadler from East Gippsland! Founded in 1951 by Jack Crowther and joined by Michael Sadler in 1974, this trusted firm has shaped countless projects, guiding them from concept to completion. 🏗️ More than Surveying: With a team of 17, Crowther & Sadler offers much more than surveying - they specialise in town planning, natural resource management, and project management, turning blank canvases into thriving communities. 🔄 A New Generation Leading the Way: In 2022, Michael Sadler began stepping back, passing the reins to a new leadership team: Paul Dwyer, celebrating an incredible 40 years with the firm, Kate Young (née Sadler) and Richard Hoxley. 🤝 Deeply Rooted in the Community: Crowther & Sadler’s commitment to East Gippsland goes beyond their projects. During the recovery from the Black Summer bushfires, they provided pro bono support to smaller communities. As proud members of the Committee for Gippsland since 2013, they continue to support and shape the region. Want to learn more about Crowther & Sadler? It's inspiring to see Southern Rural Water’s support for pioneers like Stephen Reynolds in West Gippsland, who is working to put Thorpdale on the map - not just for its renowned potatoes, but for its high-value essential oils too! Stephen’s journey from engineer to plant breeder led him to grow brown boronia, a unique Australian native prized for its fragrance and flavour, and he’s one of only two growers in the world cultivating this crop. Stephen’s boronia farm has thrived thanks to thoughtful water management, volcanic soils, and his innovative harvesting techniques, including a custom-built harvester that carefully protects these delicate plants. With plans to expand, he’s on the cusp of great things. Learn more about Stephen’s journey 👇
Stephen Reynolds has a 24 megalitre water entitlement in Thorpdale. He’s using it as one of only two people world-wide to produce high-value brown boronia essential oil. Valued at between $15,000 to $17,000 per litre, much of this oil ends up in high-end perfume. We’re proud to support innovative growers like Stephen pursue their business dreams. Education plays a vital role in our region creating pathways from primary to secondary, through to vocational and tertiary education and into the jobs of today and the future. Really pleased to be able to showcase our region to the Regional Education Commissioner, the Hon Fiona Nash, and highlight the work our education providers are undertaking, particularly as Gippsland transitions and continues to develop and attract new industries. After serving as a Senator for New South Wales and holding several ministerial roles including Minister for Regional Development, Minister for Regional Communications and Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Education, Commissioner Nash is Australia’s First Regional Education Commissioner. It was great to facilitate discussions with our Committee for Gippsland members around training, skills and education pathways, workforce planning for existing and emerging industries like offshore wind, and the important role that education plays in retaining young people in regions like Gippsland. Looking forward to continuing to work with the Regional Education Commissioner in ensuring regional students and workforces across Gippsland have the best opportunities possible.
