In September 2023, we have successfully institutionalized the promotion of a culture of peace in the Philippine jail system through a memorandum circular approved by the Chief of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology. As the implementing arm of the agency, we are glad that we were able to gradually integrate the program, beginning with the capacity building of our personnel. For 2024, there were 14, 609 personnel in the country who were able to complete the peace education course offered via online by the Institute for Economics & Peace while 2 personnel have successfully completed the IEP Ambassador Program. There were 264 personnel who were oriented by the BJMP PCVE Center on the basics of peace education and approved policy in regional offices. There were 115 personnel who have completed the peace education course under the The Prem Rawat Foundation (TPRF) Peace Education Program while 11 have been certified as TPRF program facilitators. Likewise, more than 30, 000 students in various schools and universities nationwide have benefitted the orientation provided by the BJMP P/CVE Center and regional offices as part of its peacebuilding and P/CVE commitments for the country. For 2024, the agency has also conferred 3 Gray Dove Awards for jail facilities which have shown exemplary performance in promoting a culture of peace in the agency. As of today, the BJMP already has 6 Gray Dove awardees. Complementing this annual award is the conduct of MasterPeace painting competition for persons deprived of liberty and songwriting competition every September in harmony with the International Day of Peace. Our gratitude to the UNODC United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Philippines. Two peace education halls have been established in Lipa City Jail Male Dormitory and Quezon City Jail- Female Dormitory. 100% of personnel in Lipa City Jail-MD have undergone the TPRF Peace Education Program through the leadership of Aris Williamere Villaester. Highlighting 2024 is the agreement entered between the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Peace, Reconciliation and Unity and the BJMP for mutual support, cooperation and collaboration to further promote peace, reconciliation and unity within the agency and among persons deprived of liberty and the community. We have also entered into an agreement with the Armed Forces of the Philippines-Center for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism to further promote peace in the community. Congratulations and our gratitude to all our peace partners.
