We recently welcomed 15 students from Broome Senior High School’s Mamaljan Pathways program to our Broome office. The program provides education support for students with disabilities, complex needs and learning disadvantages. Students were taking part in a work experience day with Kimberley Ports Authority and Kimberley Mineral Sands to learn more about the different employment pathways and careers available in our respective industries. They started with a tour of Broome Port where they visited the wharf and saw the stevedoring team in action loading one of our boats with mineral sands. At the KMS office they met staff from the Community Team who ran a pre-start session like we’d do every morning at Thunderbird. The students finished the tour with a practical session, during which they performed the required daily checks on one of our utes. We hope to see the students working in the industry in a few years! #broomeseniorhigh #mamaljun #workexperience #thunderbirdmineralsands

👤 Faces of Thunderbird 👤 Meet Johari! Johari is Broome born and bred and has Jaru and Jabirr Jabirr heritage from his mother’s side. His father is Malaysian and came to Broome to work on the pearl luggers in the 1950s. Johari has worked across many different industries and workplaces over the past 40 years, and this is his second stint in the mining industry. He says working for KMS appealed to him because it is new, exciting and promising for local Aboriginal people’s future. "There is a wealth of opportunities for our people and it is so close to home… as the project is new, it gives me the opportunity to help to contribute towards establishing a good working/living culture for all Thunderbird employees and their families on and off site.” #thunderbirdmineralsandsproject #facesofthunderbird #localpeoplelocaljobs

Congratulations to Broome Chamber on hosting an outstanding inaugural Leadership Series event last night, featuring the inspiring Wayne Bergmann and Dr Craig Challen OAM. It was a full house, with a diverse audience from across the Broome community captivated by the stories of these two remarkable leaders. A huge thank you to Wayne for sharing his journey from early leadership in Fitzroy Crossing to James Price Point, and to Craig for his incredible account of the Thai cave rescue, told with both humour and humility. What a memorable evening! #broomechamber #thunderbirdmineralsandsproject #leaders #leadership #inspiringleaders
