Last month, ARIIA & Flinders University held The First Nations Aged Care Workforce Needs and Opportunities Roundtable, a national conference which was carried out in Adelaide. KSJ’s Uncle Bill Wilson facilitated the event which brought together CEOs, Directors, ACCOs, research organisations, and other major leaders within the Aged Care industry, including Interim First Nations Aged Care Commissioner Andrea Kelly. The core focus was to ask the question “How can we build the First Nations aged care sector together and what do culturally safe services look like?” Conversations surrounded workforce development and strategy planning, contributing to providing practical, constructive, and culturally safe support. Witnessing the dedication to caring for the aging First Nations population, as well as the understanding that new informed & enhanced support is required, was inspiring for all. KSJ respect the values & commitments of all in attendance and look forward to seeing these plans succeeding and being implemented on the ground. Today is Road Worker Day of Remembrance and, this morning, Platinum Civil Construction Group paused to pay tribute to those who have lost their lives or suffered serious injury whilst working on our roads. These are the unsung heroes who play a pivotal role in the development of our infrastructure that communities rely on daily. Please also pause for a moment and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice or have been injured in the line of duty. There is no one that someone might miss, and everyone has the right to get home safe. #RWDOR24 #RWDOR Kiara Johnson Tim Freer Mikael Strain Kate Molloy Shorup Sharma Akash Kandel Nabeel Mohammed Barry Nisbet Connor Galpin Ben Metcalf Kathleen Vette Karoline Brown Dr. Nkosinathi Sithole Anita Koch
Our KSJ Consulting team were pleased to join SA Water in celebrating as they forge their path towards Reconciliation by launching their new Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) this afternoon, Thursday 30th October. We were provided with a Welcome To Country Ceremony by Robert Taylor Cultural services, including a cleansing smoking ceremony and call for connection to all of our ancestors. We all experienced the talent of the dancers from Of Desert and Sea (ODAS), as well as other gifted performers. Ngaityalya, thank you, to all! Speakers from SA Water team members and Board Chair of Directors reflected on their many accomplishments and highlights, as well as what Reconciliation means to them. We also heard more on the areas which will receive a larger focus when taking their next steps within their journey. One area being their Retention of First Nations employees. SA Water has already initiated this focus by employing Deb P. as their Aboriginal Employment and Retention Adviser earlier this year. Deb has now supported the development of the new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment and Retention Plan that aligns with Kauwi Miyurna (SA Water’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander network group.) Our respect to Nellie Hirschhausen, Aboriginal Engagement Lead, for all outcomes you have helped achieved also. Congratulations to SA Water, the RAP Working Group members, the Kauwi Miyurna network, the Board, and to all SA Water employees & major stakeholders which have helped make this happen. KSJ Consulting have been proud business partners and community allies with SA Water for five years, successfully completing various projects together across the state and supporting their journey. We are truly grateful for these opportunities and our shared successes. We look forward to our upcoming projects together. Congratulations again to all of SA Water for implementing their third Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan, it’s fifth RAP overall. MEDIA RELEASE Monday 14 October 2024 ONE YEAR ON FROM FAILED INDIGENOUS VOICE REFERENDUM, RECONCILIATION SA URGES REFLECTION AND COMPASSION Reconciliation SA is urging Australians to reflect on missed opportunities as the nation marks the one-year anniversary of the failed referendum on an Indigenous Voice to Parliament. Reconciliation SA chief executive officer Jason Downs says the referendum was a significant moment in Australia's modern history that continues to evoke deep emotions. “Reconciliation SA stands in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as we reflect on the profound impact, trauma and resilience that have defined this past year,” Mr Downs says. “This anniversary is not only a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by First Nations peoples, but also an opportunity to acknowledge an unwavering strength, cultural richness and enduring spirit.” Mr Downs says that, sadly, the failure of the referendum has emboldened those Australians keen to undermine progress made toward reconciliation, including some councils and organisations discontinuing Acknowledgement of Country practices. “These actions and attitudes are deeply disappointing, fostering division rather than reflecting the values of an inclusive society that acknowledges and celebrates the world’s oldest continuing living culture,” Mr Downs says. “As we mark one year since the referendum, it is vital that we reflect on missed opportunities – the disappointment, grief and trauma that have resurfaced remind us of the long road we still have ahead to achieve true reconciliation. “However, it’s also important to highlight the incredible resilience and strength that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities continue to display in the face of adversity. Their ongoing leadership and calls for justice inspire us to keep working toward a more equitable and inclusive society.” Reconciliation SA remains committed to fostering meaningful relationships between First Nations and non-Indigenous peoples, advocating for systemic change and promoting the rich cultural knowledge and connection that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have to country. “We cannot shy away from the difficult conversations that arise from moments like this anniversary,” Mr Downs says. “We must confront our history with truth, honour the resilience of First Nations people and ensure that the hope for future generations is built on justice and equality.” For media enquiries, please call 08 7082 2977 or email admin@reconciliationsa.org.au https://hubs.li/Q02Tbt-z0
