Like Family

Hi there, we're Like Family! This is our story. When our co-founder, Mat, was 26, his parents were diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses, which stopped them from connecting with their community and took away their independence. Our founders learnt that they weren't the only ones facing this problem and created Like Family to help people connect with passionate support workers who help empower them to enjoy their lives. We're glad to have you join our community!

Introducing Heart-to-Heart with Like Family✨ This series of webinars delves into the uncomfortable conversations that matter. Our goal is to shed light on the critical factors driving loneliness in vulnerable communities and empower you with the knowledge and skills to make a difference. Our first topic focuses on Love, Dating, and Relationships for people living with disabilities. We’ll be joined by an inspiring group of speakers, each bringing diverse experience in this important area: - Candice Care-Unger: Branch President of the Society of Australian Sexologists and Director of CARE REHAB, a specialist social work and psychosexual therapy service provider. - Larissa Kutny: Head of Community at Spoony, a social app designed to connect neurodivergent, chronically ill, and disabled individuals. - Daniel McDonald: A deaf, Aboriginal, LGBTQIA+ identifying man with intersectional lived experience. Daniel is a member of the Sydney Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council and serves on the Inclusion Disability Advisory Panel of the City of Sydney. Little moments mean more when shared together ❤️ A recent survey we conducted showed that 61.7% of people with disabilities say that they don’t feel connected with others during the holiday season. But it doesn't have to be this way. 85% of Aussies with disabilities said that small gestures, like a message or greeting, would make their holiday season more meaningful and it's this message that we've aimed to capture in Like Family's 2024 Christmas Campaign. Sometimes, all it takes is someone by your side to make every day a little more special!🎄

Driven by their passion for making an impact and their experience as family carers, they have built a fantastic community of social carers, members, partners, and advocates and have helped thousands of people make meaningful connections and build their independence.
