The ECU City campus reached a major milestone this week, with the campus officially reaching its full structural height. Opening in semester one, 2026, the campus features 11 super-levels of world-class teaching facilities, enabling some of the most digitally informed and enhanced learning of its type internationally. Bringing together the creative industries with business and technology programs, the design breaks the disciplines from their silos and provides opportunities for the cross pollination of ideas. Watch the timelapse to see this major project come to life, as it takes its place in the Perth CBD skyline. #ECUCity #EdithCowanUniversity #PerthCityDeal For more information: https://ow.ly/Ro7N50Um57z ECU City Campus is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people. Works continue to progress on the landmark ECU City campus, due to open semester one 2026. ECU City includes the new home for the internationally renowned Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). The ‘new home’ for WAAPA includes a Playhouse theatre, Recital Hall, Flex Theatre, Jazz and Contemporary Venue, Aboriginal Performance venue, and Dance Theatre, along with a range of support spaces such as workshop areas and dressing rooms. The campus is designed to be a place for learning, giving students and staff access to learn, create and perform in world-class spaces. Blurring the boundary between internal and external venues, the spaces are linked, permeable and accessible, ensuring a continuous environment for learning and public performance. The Kangan Batman TAFE Automotive Centre of Excellence (ACE), located in Melbourne’s Docklands, accommodates a dedicated training and showcase facility for Australia’s automotive trades and manufacturing. Consisting of high-bay workshop spaces, specialist workrooms, classrooms and office accommodation, the design absorbs sources from automotive culture, and its relationships with the city. The building places TAFE students in the heart of metropolitan Melbourne. The design melds together our knowledge of university architecture with more traditional aspects of tertiary college buildings. Conceived as a small civic space, the main foyer with its monumental staircase acts as the key circulation pathway through the building as well as a thermal chimney for the administration and teaching areas. From this space visitors experience a “transition” from traditional technical college materiality: raw blockwork, exposed steel and concrete to contemporary applications of carbon fibre and glass projection technology, again contrasting the automotive sensibility of raw technology and polished finish. Galkangu (Bendigo Govhub) creates a key new public realm in the heart of Bendigo, centralising the delivery of a range of government services. A unified customer service area, concierge, open cafe and exhibition spaces will enable connections and the delivery of services for the community. Our design for customer services features a singular, continuous counter, enabling a hybrid model of service. Featuring an innovative exposed timber structural frame, the building provides multiple opportunities for viewing surrounding nature, creating working spaces that are naturally warm and comfortable. Large flexible floors, fewer walls and integrated departments help to break down operational silos and encourage sustainable and productive ways of working. The Saint Teresa of Kolkata building at ACU is a student-focused campus, with a permeable and open design that allows students to easily move between lecture halls, social areas and study spaces. An abundance of gardens and greenery provide spaces for respite and fresh air – a necessary feature of the vertical campus design. The lower levels of the building provide a range of student focused spaces built with flexibility in mind to enable student collaboration, individual study or casual occupation. An urban ampitheatre on the street level is designed as a space for informal gatherings such as lectures and speeches – a sort of ‘speaker’s corner’. The collegiate life of the university is supported with an array of self-serve kitchens and casual lounge areas. For extracurricular activities, a rooftop multi-sport court is provided on the eighth level of the building, with a fully netted enclosure, change facilities and equipment storage.
