We have made a significant contribution towards the Transport Portfolio spending with Aboriginal businesses, which has now exceeded the State Government's target of awarding $700 million in contracts to Aboriginal businesses—achieving this milestone 18 months ahead of schedule! Since the 2021-22 financial year, Aboriginal businesses have undertaken $532 million worth of works, representing 7% of the total spending on major infrastructure projects. A notable example of this is the engagement of Kardan Construction to deliver the Matagarup Bridge Activities Operating Premises and Café Project. Through utilisation of the Transport Portfolio Aboriginal Business Directory and its collaboration with Supply Nation, which verifies the Aboriginal ownership of businesses, over 440 Aboriginal businesses have secured work within the Transport Portfolio since the 2021-22 financial year. https://brnw.ch/21wPBWt

The New Brooking Channel Bridge opened a month ago, just 156 days after the old bridge was demolished! 🧱👷♀️ The new two-lane bridge is an essential addition to the Great Northern Highway, improving safety and strengthening supply chain resilience in the north of the state. 🛣 Importantly, this project has been built in partnership with the local community, with 170 local workers getting involved in construction, as well as structured training and mentoring programs. 🛠

🚌 RIDE WITH PRIDE 🚌 🌈Teams from across Main Roads, the Public Transport Authority, and the Department of Transport celebrated visibility across our State’s transport network showing that everyone is welcome however they engage with our transport services. 🚨 Led by a Main Roads Heavy Vehicle Escort and backed up by the Transperth Rainbow Bus we went with a theme that demonstrated that no matter the roads you drive on, the licence you hold, or the bus, train, or ferry you jump on – you can RIDE WITH PRIDE right across the whole of Western Australia. 🙌🏼 For the third consecutive year the Transport Portfolio was one of 106 floats and more than 5000 other marchers through the streets of Northbridge supporting and celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community.
