Jane McGrath Day is always the highlight of our year, but this one was pure magic. Starting with over 250 of our incredible supporters joining us on the pitch to remember Jane and celebrate our new purpose—care for all cancers—in front of a sold-out Sydney Cricket Ground, the energy was absolutely electric. “I definitely don’t have a Noelle. I’d love to have a Noelle." Kate and Kriss Hardmann know only too well the difference the support of a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse makes. Kate has been diagnosed with breast cancer twice and is living with metastic breast cancer, while husband Kriss has also been diagnosed with testicular cancer. At the time of Kate’s second breast diagnosis, she was 33-weeks pregnant. “It was devastating. I rang Noelle and she was amazing. I had so many questions, and she answered every single one of them,” says Kate. “She was a fountain of knowledge and put Kriss and I at ease.” While Kriss says his cancer experience has been nothing like Kate’s, he adds the support of a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse during his diagnosis and treatment would have been “really helpful”. “I didn’t have anyone in a professional capacity that had the knowledge, resources or the caring nature of a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse. “There was no support, nothing unless I decided to strike up a conversation with a bloke in the waiting room. Any level of support would’ve been good when you’re going through a cancer diagnosis and surgery.
