  • This festive season, our Home and Community Services team in Ballarat has embraced the true meaning of giving by taking part in the Reverse Advent Calendar initiative. "Instead of receiving something each day, you add an item to a box, which is then gifted to a family in need," explained Tracy, Centre Manager South West Region. "Our team members donated a wonderful variety of items, from food and personal essentials to handmade treats." Caring is at the heart of everything we do, and we are so proud of our team members for going the extra mile to care for their local community. #notforprofit #communityservices #homecare #caringcommunity

  • On Friday, 6 December, mecwacare Annie's Court hosted a festive morning tea to celebrate the holiday season, bringing together residents, team members and the local community. The event featured a visit from Shoreham CFA, who showcased their brand-new tanker truck and full crew, joined by CFA President Sue Wilding. The Shoreham Community Association generously contributed items for the morning tea, complemented by delicious offerings from our kitchen team. Our residents had a fantastic time exploring the tanker truck and spending time with the CFA crew and our guests. Thank you to the Shoreham CFA, Shoreham Community Association and our incredible team for hosting a memorable event that strengthened our aged care home's connection to their local community. #notforprofit #caringcommunity #CFA #festiveseason #agedcareaustralia

  • This International Volunteer Day, we celebrate the incredible contributions of millions of volunteers across Australia who strengthen communities nationwide. At mecwacare, we’re proud to have 550 dedicated volunteers enriching the lives of our residents, clients and participants every day. One of these extraordinary individuals is Geoff, a volunteer at the Fisher Street Centre and a proud recipient of our 2024 Volunteer of the Year award. Geoff devotes two days a week to supporting our participants with their programs and activities. “Volunteering really makes you appreciate what you have in your particular circumstance,” Geoff shares. “I certainly get much more out of it than I give.” To Geoff and all our amazing volunteers: thank you for your generosity, compassion and the difference you make. Happy International Volunteer Day! #IVD #InternationalVolunteerDay #thankyouvolunteers #caringcommunity

  • We are pleased to announce that a building partner has been selected for mecwacare's new Ballan aged care redevelopment project. The establishment and setup of the Ballan construction site began last week. This is an extremely exciting time for mecwacare’s Ballan team as well as the organisation’s wider community. This new facility will house 60 residents and has been designed with a focus on comfort and social engagement. A variety of comfortable and inviting shared spaces draw inspiration from the site’s beautiful surroundings. The team at SJ Higgins Group is thrilled to be starting this new project and partnership, and we are delighted to be able to bring our Ballan aged care upgrade project to life. Following the festive season shutdown, full construction works are set to begin in early January. Stay tuned for more updates to come in anticipation of our fantastic new residential site. #notforprofit #excitingnews #agedcareaustralia #caringcommunity

  • Today, we celebrated International Day of People with Disability at the Fisher Street Centre with a vibrant showcase of our participants' creative talents. A beautiful gallery of upcycled and sustainable art was on display for guests to admire, featuring pictures, models, figurines, mosaics, collages and decoupage crafted from a variety of recycled materials. Hungry guests were treated to a selection of delicious goodies such as nacho cups, burgers, sandwiches, chocolate brownies and more—all homemade by Fisher Street participants as part of their cooking program. Handmade candles, plants from the Fisher Street and Berwick Brae Gardens collaboration and eco-friendly clothes protectors were also on sale as beautiful keepsakes from the day. The celebration ended with a special performance of a Taylor Swift classic and the drawing of the raffle for delighted prize winners. A big thank you to everyone who helped make this celebration a success and to our participants for their amazing achievements. #notforprofit #IDPwD #InternationalDayofPeoplewithDisability #caringcommunity
