  • On Behalf of our clients and customers, Melchor has donated backpacks filled with essential school supplies to Dandelions WA, a local charity dedicated to empowering children in need. Packed by our apprentices, trainees and graduates on our Rising Talent Day , the backpacks include stationary items, a lunchbox, a water bottle and hats. The need for school supplies is continuously growing, with the number of requests for help increasing from 7,000 last year to over 13,500 this year. Over the weekend our Operations Manager, Dylan, dropped these off at the Dandelions WA headquarters to be distributed and shared the following words. “This is now the second year of what will hopefully be a long relationship – it is one of the most humbling experiences I have been associated with and I’m proud of our contribution to such a great cause! Every child deserves a level playing field and when you consider the bags are packed with essentials for primary school aged children, it’s a small contribution that can have a huge impact on a small West Aussie’s future!”

  • Congratulations to Teariki Framhein (Riki) the winner of Melchor’s 2024 Kendall Worroll Rising Talent Award!   Formerly known as the ‘Rising Talent Award’, Melchor renamed this to the ‘Kendall Worroll Rising Talent Award’ in honour of Kendall Worroll who passed away late last year and who was the very first winner of this award.   This award is intended to recognise and celebrate our Rising Talents who consistently go above and beyond, demonstrating their exceptional skills, commitment and performance throughout the year. This year, we invited Kendall’s siblings to announce the very well deserved winner, Riki.   While having been employed with Melchor since 2021, Riki commenced his formal Apprenticeship in 2023 and consistently shows an outstanding amount of dedication to his work while being flexible and helping others.   Always maintaining a positive attitude and lifting his peers up, we are excited to see Riki grow even further through his journey with us.

  • Earlier this month, Melchor welcomed two talented undergraduate engineers to the team, Andrew and Jack (centre). As part of the Monadelphous Graduate Programme, over the next few months Andrew and Jack will be gaining hands-on experience on site on one of our projects in Karratha while working closely alongside our projects team and senior engineers. We can’t wait to see the impact they will make during their time on-site and how the experience will shape their journey in civil engineering.

  • Earlier this month, Melchor hosted our annual Rising Talent Day which is a day designed to bring our Apprentices, Trainees and Graduates together to focus on their wellbeing and development. We kicked off the day with training facilitated by Happiness Co on Positive Culture and Intergenerational Communication. Our Rising Talent had the opportunity to listen and learn from Robbie Figg on the importance of fostering strong, cross-generational collaboration and helping our team learn skills on how to bridge generational gaps and communicate effectively with our diverse workforce. Afterwords we enjoyed a change in pace focusing on physical wellbeing and movement by participating in a Matwork Pilates class with Georgia Atkins. Through the laughter and (occasional) tumbles, our Rising Talent learned the importance of balance, resilience and having fun with the process. We then gathered for a hands-on activity with heart, and as part of our commitment to community involvement our cohort packed school supplies for West Australian children in need which will be distributed through Dandelions WA as part of our corporate Christmas gifting. The day ended with a golf session where our rising talent got the chance to tee off and chat with Melchor and Monadelphous leaders. Congratulations to the winning golf team who can keep bragging rights till next year! James Oxley (Supervisor), Jason Potts (IT Project Manager), Lewis Henry (Carpenter Apprentice) and Bennu Stwart (Carpenter Apprentice). A big thank you to everyone who joined us and here’s to the bright journey ahead for our Rising Talent!

Gerry Walshe, one of Melchor's Senior Project Engineers recently had the opportunity to present at a STEM professionals in schools program to year six students at Bibra Lake Primary School. Gerry introduced the students to Engineering, focusing primarily on Civil Engineering, while using the Kwinana Energy Recovery Project which Gerry spent almost three years working on as an example. Students had the opportunity to ask questions throughout the session and engage on the build and Gerry's experience. Events like this continue to have positive outcomes within our communities and show cases the opportunities the next generation can explore in the future. Well done Gerry!

With NAIDOC week and school holidays coinciding last month in July, Melchor invited the children of our office-based team to partake in our NAIDOC event. Together, we had a great day recognising and celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Our celebrations started with an introduction of NAIDOC week by Melchor’s Aboriginal Engagement Partner, Ralph Mogridge followed by an interactive Noongar Language class with Dylan Collard (recipient of the NAIDOC Perth 2023 Education Award). We learnt about different tools, animals and history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Following the language class a Smoking Ceremony was led by Nick Abraham owner of Warrang-Bridil to promote the protection and well-being of our employees and office. This year, we also released our new Hi-Vis shirts which incorporates Melchor’s Aboriginal artwork which was created by proud Whadjuk-Yuet-Ballardong artist Kevin Bynder. The design on these shirts draws inspiration from Melchor’s journey of growth, our values and the communities we engage with. Thank you to all those who participated and joined us in the celebrations.
