One month ago, Meld Studios entered voluntary liquidation, marking a bittersweet close to an extraordinary 14+ year journey. This decision was not easy, and we recognise its impact on our team, clients, and partners. We remain committed to supporting the process and are deeply grateful for the support we’ve received. We’re immensely proud of all that we’ve accomplished together and the impact we’ve had. While Meld Studios has closed, our individual journeys continue, with incredibly talented Meldsters now seeking new opportunities to tackle complex challenges in service, organisation, and transition design, amongst the many other directions we each may take. We look forward to carrying forward the legacy of Meld Studios—sharing insights and bridging our deep collective expertise with those of you seeking thoughtful partners in navigating complexity and wanting to design better futures, together. Housing. Australia’s favourite financial obsession? But how might we positively impact our own future through housing? Current pricing and affordability concerns aside, an increasingly acknowledged issue is the energy performance of Australian houses compared to other parts of the OECD. Northern Europe in particular has exceptional insulation standards for obvious and historical reasons, so how might we influence Australia to build better? Enter service design methods. Together with home buyers, home builders and the NSW Government, we developed an information and education series to support buying and building choices that are mutually beneficial, empowering prospective buyers to be informed and confident when requesting energy efficient homes, but also supporting builders in facilitating these conversations and accommodating future customer needs into their businesses. This project won a best in class Good Design Award that recognised co-design as key to aligned outcomes that will benefit future generations and help mitigate the 13% of greenhouse gases emitted annually by Australian homes. #servicedesign #energyefficiency #homebuilding #housingemissions #designingbetterfuturestogether #codesign #builtenvironment

Service frameworks are a (still!) lesser used but oftentimes crucial tool for identifying and applying effective strategic change. From testing Central and Sydenham stations using 3D renders on paper to seeing them come to life and open to the public, it’s been an incredible journey.
