  • 💜 Celebrating Women’s Leadership, Impact & Empowerment 💜 International Women’s Day at Mercy Health wasn’t just a single event—it was a week-long celebration of learning, recognition, and action. Through a series of masterclasses, panels, and discussions, we explored the tools and strategies that empower women in the workplace and beyond. From negotiation skills with Seek’s Nicola Laver to financial security with Aware Super’s Natalie Candy & Richard Lynch, every session provided valuable insights to help women take charge of their futures. This year, we also honoured the incredible women across Mercy Health through our Honour Roll of Women. Nominated by their colleagues, these women exemplify compassion, leadership, and resilience—qualities that continue to shape our organisation and communities. A special thank you to our speakers, attendees, and sponsors for making this celebration so meaningful. Let’s keep driving change, amplifying women’s voices, and championing equity in all spaces.

  • Congratulations to Dr Ranmali Rodrigo on completing her PhD! Mercy Health neonatologist Dr Ranmali Rodrigo has completed a PhD on the safe storage and transport of expressed breastmilk for premature babies—research that has the potential to change lives. In Sri Lanka, many mothers remain in hospital for the entirety of their baby’s care because there are no established guidelines for the safe transport of breastmilk. Dr Rodrigo's research paves the way for improved processes, ensuring more mothers can balance family responsibilities while continuing to provide for their babies. • A major research milestone for perinatal care! Mercy Health’s Professor Brett Manley and collaborators have demonstrated that Adaptive Platform Trials (APTs)—a more efficient and responsive way of conducting clinical trials—can significantly improve research in preterm birth. This could help drive faster, more effective interventions for premature babies worldwide. Most importantly, this research has been published in The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health—one of the most prestigious medical journals globally. Congratulations to Professor Manley and his team for this critical contribution to perinatal research!  Read more here: https://bit.ly/4hZdg3T

  • Improving outcomes for extremely premature babies Babies born extremely preterm often require life-saving breathing support, but these treatments can lead to lung injuries, increasing the risk of chronic lung disease. At Mercy Health, we’re proud to support Dr Kristin Ferguson, Neonatal Fellow, as she embarks on vital research to change this. Kristin is beginning her PhD at University of Melbourne, working to determine the optimal gas flows that safely and effectively support the fragile lungs of extremely preterm infants. Her research, in collaboration with Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) and The Royal Women's Hospital, has earned her prestigious funding from National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), Melbourne Academic Centre for Health, and ZOLL Foundation. "I want to see more extremely preterm infants leave the NICU without long-term lung disease," says Kristin. Congratulations, Kristin! We’re excited to see how your research will help improve care for our most vulnerable babies. Read more about Kristin’s research here: https://lnkd.in/gRR3pRgt

  • At Mercy Hospital for Women, our Neonatal team provides world-class care to some of our tiniest patients—including newborn triplets like Anton, Alexander, and Attila. Born ten weeks premature, these little ones received round-the-clock care from our multidisciplinary team—each baby requiring their own doctor and nurse, plus extra floating nurses to ensure the best possible start to life. We’re proud of the incredible efforts of Dr Kristin Ferguson, Dr Natalie Duffy, and our dedicated neonatal staff, who work tirelessly to support families during such critical moments. This special Mercy family recently shared their journey on A Current Affair. Watch the segment to see the impact of neonatal care in action.  #MercyHealth #healthcareer #WhereTheresLifeTheresMercy #WhereTheresCareTheresYou
