MESHA is delighted to celebrate a major achievement with the successful pilot of VetNet Australia, a collaboration with BAE Systems Australia dedicated to empowering veterans in their transition to civilian careers. Together, we’ve created a tailored Veteran Mentoring Program to support veterans’ unique career journeys and pave the way for lasting success. Through VetNet Australia, MESHA brought together our StoryRight and MindRight programs, focused on skill development and mental well-being, and introduced a tailored Military Culture Training for HR teams and managers. This integrated approach has provided BAE Systems’ veteran employees with vital resources and a strong community of support. As a reflection of our commitment to veteran employment, VetNet Australia is not only a network—it’s a celebration of veterans’ skills, resilience, and leadership potential. Working alongside BAE Systems to build a veteran-friendly environment has been a rewarding journey, and we’re proud to see this initiative help veterans thrive in civilian roles. The success of VetNet Australia shows what’s possible when organizations come together with a shared vision for veterans. Now Recruiting for an Australian-first research study: Support After First Responder Suicide Study (SAFeRS) Military and Emergency Services Health Australia (MESHA - a charity of The Hospital Research Foundation) is undertaking a study exploring the supports available to anyone impacted by the suicide death of an emergency services first responder. We hope to hear from the family members and co-workers who have been impacted by the suicide death of an Emergency Services worker, and the healthcare professionals and other service providers who support and care for them. Your voice can offer insight into your experiences accessing support after the suicide death of a police officer, firefighter, paramedic, correctional officer, or other first responder, whether they were employed full-time, part-time, or a volunteer. By participating in this study, you will be providing important information about your perceptions and experiences to the services available to the families and coworkers impacted by the suicide of an emergency services member(s). Your perspective will contribute to the growing body of knowledge around the resources available to the community following the suicide of an emergency services member. Who can Participate? Family members and/or co-workers, as well as healthcare professionals and service providers who have been directly or indirectly impacted by the loss of an Emergency Services worker to suicide can participate in this study. What is Involved? Participation involves completing an online survey of open-ended questions about your perceptions and experiences to accessing or providing support after the suicide death of a first responder. If you choose to, you can also take part in an interview to further describe your experiences. All information provided in the survey and interview is strictly confidential. Can I Participate Now? 🌟Supporting Our Service Men and Women: $275,000 for the WAVES Program🌟 The Hospital Research Foundation Group is proud to announce a $275,000 commitment to extend the WAVES Program (Wellbeing for Australian Veterans and Emergency Services), providing vital support for current and former serving military personnel and first responders. 💙 Granted to the University of South Australia who developed and run the program, the funding will expand its reach, offering sport and exercise opportunities to aid physical, emotional, and psychological recovery. It will also include support for family carers and provide valuable training for students in allied health. 👨👩👦👦 This will allow the WAVES Program to continue its life-changing work, helping hundreds of individuals overcome challenges and heal through sport, goal setting, and community engagement. We’re proud to share how our Emergency Services Art Program, supported by Babcock Australia & New Zealand , is making an impact beyond the classroom! 🎨🚓 One of our participants, Ash, from the Hindley Street Police Station, asked if we could provide art materials and activities for their Staff Wellbeing Room. We have also recently extended our program, ensuring that all staff can now enjoy the benefits of creativity and relaxation in their workplace. Our Babcock Australia & New Zealand Defence Kids Art Program is set to begin in November! 🎨 Led by experienced art psychotherapist Karin Foxwell, this program will give children a chance to express their emotions and feelings through creative practice in a supportive and safe group environment. These workshops help children build rapport, develop new skills, and learn ways to manage their wellbeing in Defence families with periods where parents work away and do dangerous jobs.
