Still feeling inspired after meeting 100s of passionate students last week at the Catholic Network Australia 2024 STEM MAD Student Showcase, hosted by Brisbane Catholic Education at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre! It was such a joy connecting with enthusiastic teachers and parents, and we absolutely loved seeing the excitement as students explored our STEM VR experiences at the booth. Their curiosity and energy were truly contagious! The day got even better when we had the chance to guide incredible Year 4 to 6 students through our STEM VR experiences during two dynamic breakout sessions—it was such a rewarding experience. Last week we teamed up with Meta and Ingram Micro to highlight the capabilities of Virtual Reality, showcasing how Meta for Education can streamline learning, training, and development programmes for various institutions. Thank you to Matthew Sanders and the team at Meta for travelling from across the globe to educate us on the power of the Meta Quest, the future for AI in education, and the steps they are taking to address privacy concerns within the Metaverse and beyond. As educators, we understand the challenges students face with foundational math concepts like place value, often leading to misconceptions that hinder their understanding. We’re excited to announce a collaboration between Middle Park Primary School, The Mathematical Association of Victoria, and Mindflight7 to develop VR math apps that address these gaps. After insights from Dr Jo Boaler, Principal @Tim Newton saw how virtual reality could enhance understanding by immersing students in mathematical concepts. MAV is providing feedback to ensure our apps meet educational needs, while Mindflight7 brings these ideas to life. Our advisory team at MPPS will implement the apps, collecting data to refine the experience further. We aim to transform how students perceive mathematics by connecting whole numbers, decimals, and fractions to eliminate misconceptions and build confidence. Join us at the #MAVCON 2024 on 5 & 6th of December, where we’ll showcase our 5 polished VR math apps and premiere a 6th. This event, themed "Curriculum, Pedagogy, and Beyond: Supporting Our Teachers and Students into the Future", will gather over 1,500 math educators—a great opportunity for networking and sharing innovations.
