Our MMIC Director Prof Michelle McIntosh and Senior Scientist in Biologics, Dr Shadab Haque, PhD are participating in the inaugural Cumming Global Centre for Pandemic Therapeutics Annual Symposium, representing our advanced expertise and capabilities in respiratory delivery of biologic therapeutics to address future pandemic challenges.

A great start to AusBiotech 2024! As we are part of the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS), our colleagues Katie Leach from business development and Luke Adams from the ARC Centre for Fragment-Based Design will also be happy to discuss MIPS integrated capabilities to support the sector across the drug development pipeline.

It was a pleasure to host delegates from the AusBiotech 2024 conference at our new facilities at the Australian Synchrotron as part of showcasing the advanced infrastructure within the Monash Technology Precinct. It provided a great opportunity to discuss our unique preclinical capabilities in supporting the pharmaceutical sector.

Our business consultant Christine Cussen, Senior Operations Manager, Tri-Hung Nguyen and Senior Scientist Garima Sharma will be in attendance. They will be representing our advanced capabilities and services in formulation development, characterisation, synthesis, stability, spray-drying, and analytical chemistry to support the pharmaceutical and allied sector. We were pleased to welcome colleagues from Shimadzu Scientific Australasia on a visit to the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre - MMIC's new laboratory based at the ANSTO Australian Synchrotron in #Melbourne last week. Shimadzu has been a supporter of analytical science at the MMIC and in our sister laboratory, the HMSTrust Analytical Chemistry laboratory at Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, for many years. The relationship remains an excellent demonstration of how collaboration around technology can drive innovation through an entire sector and into surrounding space. These two photos say a lot about the invaluable breadth of Paul Wynne's contributions to the MMIC. The photo on the left was taken at the very start in 2017, with optimism and extensive planning to set up this new innovation centre. Fast forward over seven years, and Paul stands at the entrance of a new, purpose-built facility at the Australian Synchrotron, expanding our footprint across two facilities at Parkville to Clayton. Although there have been many more achievements and milestones in the intervening years, Paul’s vision and dedication in shaping the MMIC have been instrumental to what it is today. His commitment to mentoring and developing our experienced team of subject matter experts in formulation, analytical and synthetic chemistry, respiratory delivery and biological therapeutics has allowed the MMIC to flourish. It has provided us with a strong foundation for continued growth. Beyond his contributions to our team, Paul has also been a key figure in fostering relationships with companies across Australia and internationally. These collaborations have ensured that MMIC continues supporting our clients with advanced problem-solving and research and development support. Through these partnerships, the Centre has contributed to the formulation of nine products that have advanced into clinical trials, been listed as inventors on multiple patents, and supported job creation in the Victorian pharmaceutical and medtech sectors, including manufacturing, clinical trials, and research institutes. Many past students participating in our internship program have also attested to Paul's patience and wise words in guiding them to discern the career opportunities that lie ahead. While Paul’s departure marks the end of an era, we are inspired by his unwavering commitment, leadership, and support over the years. We wish him the very best in his future endeavours and hope to continue building on the strong foundation he has laid for us.
