Over the past year, team members Moira and Laura have very much enjoyed the opportunity to work with the Children's Cancer Institute. Part of our brief was around a career pathway for research professionals at the Institute. Our work included a recommendation for the Institute to sign the International Technician Commitment, which they did this week. As the first Institute to sign the Commitment in Australia, and only the second Australian organisation to sign, this pledge is a testimony to the forward-thinking, big-picture approach of the team at the Institute. The Technician Commitment is an internationally recognised initiative that aims to improve the standing of technicians amongst the international scientific community. Since its inception in 2017, it has helped pave the way for the ongoing career sustainability of those who play key support roles. As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child. It is also true that it takes a team of people, each one bringing particular skills, knowledge, and expertise, to achieve groundbreaking research outcomes in childhood cancer research. If we are to solve complex problems, we need many expert minds on the task, and each deserves recognition, visibility, and career opportunities. Well done to the Children’s Cancer Institute for recognising the vital role of technicians in achieving their goals. Read the full announcement here: https://lnkd.in/gAXjm-RG.

Clinical trials are essential for determining the safety and effectiveness of new treatments, providing data to improve care and outcomes, and advancing research that can result in innovative new therapies. Clinical trials often feature in the strategic planning process of research institutes and hospitals, particularly when improving patient outcomes is key. If you're a Western Australian who has participated in, or is interested in clinical trials in WA take a look at this Department of Health (WA Health) survey!
📢 Survey open Are you a Western Australian who has participated in, or is interested in clinical trials in WA? 🙋♂️ 💬 The Department of Health wants to gather insights on Western Australian’s experiences of clinical trials. The MCC team celebrates and supports the goal of National Reconciliation Week - the goal of a just, equitable, and reconciled Australia. 'Now more than ever,' we must acknowledge and address the disparities faced by Indigenous communities, particularly in the context of health and medical research. Indigenous Australians have unique cultural perspectives and experiences crucial to understanding health and wellness. However, their voices are often underrepresented in medical research. We commit to focusing on inclusion, understanding, and learning in the work we do. #NRW2024 #Reconciliation #IndigenousHealth

Our team acknowledges and celebrates yesterday's significant government announcement regarding Australian health and medical research. Working with clients in this field who are steadfastly trying to solve some of the most complex issues facing the health of our communities, we understand the difference a commitment of this nature can make. This funding and, importantly, the commitment to a national health and medical research strategy that draws on a wide range of perspectives in the sector is exciting. Using a consultative strategy to make decisions, allocate funds and prioritise efforts will yield results. We also congratulate all those researchers who have been awarded grant funding. The breadth of research projects in the list is amazing, and the focus on reducing health system inequality is a commendable feature of these announcements, as is the focus on clinical trials. Reminder that this event, originally scheduled for April, is now on tomorrow night - May 1. Register via the link below. #cancercare #cancerresearch WA Comprehensive Cancer Centre
Join us for this insightful discussion about the possible future of cancer care options for patients in Western Australia. Comprehensive Cancer Centres are revolutionising care options around the world, and in Australia - centres like the Peter MacCallum in Melbourne and the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse in Sydney have proven this concept. And the National Cancer Plan has, at its core, a national network of Comprehensive Cancer Centres. WA needs one, and the Perkins has a vision for what that could be - a modern cancer hospital adjacent to a medical research institute and a clinical trials facility...

Fantastic campaign that highlights the support needed for those researching childhood cancer. Take a look and support if you can. Children's Cancer Institute #alifeshouldbelong #childhoodcancerresearch
Every year, over 1000 Australian children are diagnosed with cancer. If these children could cure themselves of cancer, they would. They would spend their days in the lab, searching for ways to put an end to their pain, and get back to being a kid again. 🔬 But they need our research. That's why we're proud to launch our new campaign: They need our help. We need yours. Our research teams need your help to pioneer safer and more effective treatments for children with cancer. A life should be long. Donate today. https://lnkd.in/gyuXMjfQ 💚 We would like to thank our incredible partners who have been instrumental in putting this campaign together. Hans Christian Berents and Ant Hatton from Orphan Creative for their powerful creative concept and pulling together this beautiful film. And to Zenith Media Australia for their generous support with our digital and media campaign. 💚 We would love as many people as possible to see this powerful and moving film, so please share this post and help us raise awareness for the vital need for childhood cancer research. #ALifeShouldBeLong #CuringChildhoodCancer #ItsNotIfItsWhen
