Murawin is proud to have worked on The Wakka Wakka Healing Country and Building Totemic Practices Framework alongside CSIRO, the Bunya Cultural Hub and Wakka Wakka Elders, Knowledge Holders and Community members. Always working to ensure others can shine, Birrillee brings a wealth of organisational and administrative experience alongside kindness and patience to Murawin. As a proud descendant of the Gumbaynggirr and Dunghutti nations. Birrillee applies her cultural knowledge with her lived and learned experiences to support the Murawin team create impact that empowers Indigenous Australians and other marginalized groups.   ☀️ What drew you to work at Murawin? I have been involved in Murawin since its inception 10 years ago. I would often assist Aunty Carol and Uncle Greg with whatever tasks were handed my way at the time. However, in early 2020 during the start of the covid pandemic I was asked if I would come on board as a part-time employee to which I happily agreed. Over the years I have had the privilege of witnessing the evolution of Murawin from its inception until this very day. I can honestly say that it truly is a hand on heart moment seeing the hopes, dreams and visions of my dear Aunty Carol and Uncle Greg coming to fruition. ☀️ What is something you are most proud of? Education has always been a fundamental aspect of my life. This was instilled within me by my grandfather at a very early age as I remember him sitting at the table helping me with my homework. When you consider that my grandfather was only offered an education up to the age of 13, the mere fact that he was able to aid me with my schoolwork is a tremendous feat. Therefore, one of my greatest achievements in life is being the first family member from my immediate family to graduate high school. Since then, my family has welcomed a further eight high school and four university graduates! We are slowly but surely breaking cycles of disadvantaged within our family through education.   ☀️ What do you do for fun? I am an avid Sydney Roosters supporter, so during the football season you’ll often find me glued to the television. Anything sport related really. I also like to indulge in cooking which is a trait I picked up from my grandmother. I also I love being around and spending time with family.

Always an empathetic deep listener, Brian is a Senior Consultant at Murawin with extensive experience in research and evaluation, strategic communication, public relations, and stakeholder engagement. Deeply invested in making a difference for his people, Brian, a Tudugal (Torres Strait Islander) man from Daru Island, is a published academic having authored multiple articles on Indigenous Affairs and the relation between First Nations Australians and Cancer.   ☀️ What drew you to work at Murawin?   In everything I do, I look to make a difference for Mobs around the country and that’s what I get to do here. I began my journey with Murawin as an Associate Consultant in 2017, but became a full-time consultant in October 2021. Over my time here I have been able to work on multiple impactful projects including Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council, the Wakka Wakka Healing Country and Building Totemic Framework and many more.   ☀️ What do you do outside of work? I find great joy in dancing, and I love taking dance classes.

The amazing National Reconciliation Week 2025 theme and artwork have just been released. At Murawin, we are committed to reconciliation more than ever and the theme of Bridging Now to Next, beautifully captures the energy we will be taking into 2025 and beyond. #NRW2025

Murawin was engaged to examine, interpret, present and represent Aboriginal heritage and culture across the design of the new Green Square Integrated Community Facility and School project. Our role was to ensure the first stories were being told, that the facilities are connected to Country and that they are welcoming spaces for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In addition, Murawin was engaged to invite an Aboriginal artist to create an artwork for installation in the school’s rooftop play area.   Murawin is proud to have delivered this comprehensive report and we look forward to the development of this project in ways that are guided and informed by the First Stories of this place and Community aspirations and desires, creating an inclusive, appealing, educational and exciting new community space for Green Square.   Read the full case study: https://lnkd.in/gmiS3edu   📸 The proposed Green Square Primary School and integrated community space by BVN, courtesy of City of Sydney
