Last week our team members Victoria Valdenegro, Bianca Dubber, Victoria Alers, Tom Fox- Smith, Felipe Matelli Matulovic were busy in New Zealand, meeting with our customers New Zealand King Salmon, Akaroa King Salmon , Mount Cook Alpine Salmon Ltd, Sanford Limited, High Country Salmon, research partners NIWA , Cawthron Institute , Nautilus Collaboration, attending the Accelerating Aquaculture conference and participating in the King Salmon Smolt Workshop, where we introduced our new diet for King Salmon - Quinnat Intro Tuning (stay tuned). It was an amazing and enjoyable experience for our team. We would like to thank everyone who took time to meet with us, ask questions and we can’t wait to do it all again next year.

We are thrilled to share the final review paper by our Aquatic Animal Welfare Veterinarian, Sarah Wahltinez, who led this paper titled: "Evaluation of insensibility in humane slaughter of teleost fish - including the use of electroencephalogram with a case study on farmed barramundi (Lates calcarifer).” 📄 Read the full paper here:https://lnkd.in/evTeWDJD Why This Paper Matters:  This comprehensive study delves into the critical aspect of fish harvest, focusing on the insensibility of fish during the process. Insensibility ensures that fish cannot experience poor welfare, which is crucial for humane treatment and high-quality production. The paper emphasises the importance of a stunning step to quickly render fish insensible. Key Findings:  Behavioural Indicators: Existing research shows that certain behavioural signs of insensibility (like ceasing to breathe or losing equilibrium) can occur before the fish is truly insensible. Physiological Validation:  To accurately determine insensibility, we need physiological tests like electroencephalography (EEG), which measures brain activity and responses to stimuli. Species-Specific Studies:  With over 313 fish species in aquaculture, each species requires tailored evaluation of behavioural indicators and harvest processes to avoid generalisations. Case Study on Barramundi:  There's limited research on barramundi harvest, highlighting the need to evaluate and potentially improve industry-standard methods like ice slurry. The Impact:  This paper identifies knowledge gaps and stimulates further research to make evidence-based recommendations for best practices. It serves as a reference for researchers and lays the groundwork for ongoing projects to improve fish welfare and product quality. Our Bonding, Our Brand and Our Team    In the glorious surrounds of Tasmania, our team gathered to delve deep, connect, and grow. This was an great opportunity to be authentic in our climate-creating and culture-building efforts. The workshop allowed us to: • Re-connect with CSIRO and explore their lab • Dive into our project profiles • Understand each other's communication styles as a group and with our clients • Recognise our achievements and the impact of our work      We also enjoyed sharing meals together, including a home-cooked collaborative meal by the fire - thanks Belinda! It was a time filled with friends and fun spirit, strengthening our bonds even further. This experience was not only about development but also about reaffirming our vision and team goals. As our team continues to grow, we know how important these check-ins are crucial for maintaining our shared direction and developing a strong, cohesive culture.
