The NDRP Board is thrilled to announce our first Research Committee, which will provide independent, strategic advice on the NDRP’s research activities. These include our research funding, capacity strengthening, evidence to action and research translation activities. Of the twelve members of the inaugural committee, half are people with disability. The Research Committee will serve for two years as a sub-committee of the NDRP Board. Analysis & Policy Observatory (APO) Disability Research Collection highlight: 2024 National Carer survey and Draft National Carer Strategy 2024-2034. Carers NSW, together with the Australian State and Territory Carer organisations, have released first results from the 2024 National Carer Survey. With over 10,000 valid responses from across Australia, the highlights provide key information on a range of issues affecting carers. Next Wednesday 27 November, our Head of Research Program Gillian Mason will be speaking at the Australasian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH)’s AI.Care conference. Gillian has long been involved in the digital health sector. Before she joined the NDRP, she co-wrote a book chapter with Denis Newman-Griffis, Bonnielin Swenor and Rupa Valdez for the First AI & Disability Justice Symposium, which took place in Toronto, Canada last week. The latest issue of the Journal of the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet is now available, and includes the publication of “Which Way? Experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing Attaining Supports to Meet Their Interwoven Socio-Cultural, Health and Disability-Related Needs and Aspirations Within the Context of Australia’s National Disability Insurance Scheme.” This publication is from a study that looked at the complexities around accessing NDIS support experienced by Deaf or Hard of Hearing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and identifies community-led and culturally appropriate strategies to address these.
