  • For more than 25 years, Matt Lewis has been a valued member of our Newmont Cadia team. After completing an electrical apprenticeship, travelling overseas and working as an industrial electrician, Matt heard about the job opportunities at Cadia (which had commenced commercial production in 1998), and was drawn to apply. One rigorous full-day interview and skills assessment later, which involved solving puzzles and building rope bridges, Matt secured a position as an electrician in the mill. He commenced in July 1999, only one week after marrying his wife, Alison. Matt remembers the early days of Cadia fondly, describing the workforce of less than 200 employees as “a little Cadia family”. Some of his favourite memories include the Cadia fishing club and its inaugural fishing trip on a houseboat at Wyangala Dam. Over the years, Matt has worked across a number of different roles and teams, including business improvement and maintenance planning. In his current role as Supervisor – Readiness, Matt oversees the maintenance asset tactics and technical documents for all new capital projects at Cadia. Congratulations on your 25 years of service, Matt! #NewmontAustralia #NewmontCadia

  • 🎉 Celebrating 300 Million Tonnes at Newmont Boddington 🎉 A significant milestone was recently achieved at Newmont Boddington, with 300 million tonnes of material moved by autonomous trucks since the autonomous haulage system (AHS) was introduced on site in March 2021. This is testament to the collaboration, expertise and determination of our teams, with the support of Caterpillar Inc., and a shared commitment to operational excellence and safety. Since AHS go-live in March 2021 we’ve continuously improved how we work. By combining cutting-edge technology with an unwavering focus on safety, we’ve pushed boundaries, streamlined operations, and redefined what’s possible in a deep-pit autonomous mining environment. #Newmont #autonomous #AHS #innovation #mining #gold #teamwork

  • Newmont’s Lihir gold operation in Papua New Guinea is utilising advanced technology to enhance production, improve mineral recovery and reduce operational costs. The metallurgical digital Geminex twin from Metso is optimising material flows, managing ore feed variability, and maximising metallurgical processes while supporting sustainability goals by lowering energy and resource use. Metallurgical digital twins simulate either the entire mine-to-metal value chain or specific process stages. Their main goal is to align operating parameters – such as feed capacity, target grades and mineral recoveries – with varying ore characteristics and equipment availability. Want to know more about how this technology combines physics-based models with AI-driven machine learning algorithms? Read more here: https://bit.ly/4ajfVSY #sustainability #AI #energy #resources

  • Ever wonder what it takes to feed a hungry horde of around 800 people at the most remote mine site in Australia? ABC’s Victoria Ellis recently went behind the scenes at Newmont’s Tanami operations to find out, discovering that our miners consume 16,200 eggs, more than 50 litres of salad dressings, and around 3 tonnes of meat per week! Head chef Reagan Chennama, who has worked on some of world’s biggest cruise ships, spoke to the ABC about the level of planning and effort required to ensure employees are provided with fresh and nutritional food each week and that food waste is minimised. • 💡 Did you know that travellers through some of the world’s deepest rail tunnels have molybdenum to thank for keeping safety on track? Type 316 stainless steel including 2% molybdenum is used in extremely challenging and corrosive environments because of superior durability and lower life costs, and can withstand fire, reducing the risk of falling debris and structural collapse during emergencies. In the world’s longest and deepest rail tunnel – Switzerland’s Gotthard Base – more than 8 kilometres and 60,000 supports made from Type 316 stainless were installed in 2016. Newmont Cadia is the only operating mine producing molybdenum in Australia and thus the only mine to receive The Molybdenum Mark. Molybdenum is not only on Australia’s Critical Minerals List, its many and varied uses never cease to amaze! Thanks to SBB Historic, Angel Sanchez, Altdorf for the photo.

  • Did you know that there are more than 50 Occupational Hygienists working across Newmont to keep our people safe, with many of them working at our sites in Boddington, Tanami, Cadia and Lihir?   These hygienists specialise in exposure prevention and protecting worker health against risks such as dust, heat, fatigue, fumes and noise.   A team of our hygiene specialists recently attended the Newmont-sponsored Annual Scientific Conference of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH) to expand their skills and knowledge and hear from presenters including UWA alumni and AFL footballer Matthew Pavlich, the two Erins from 'This Podcast Will Kill You' and Superstar of STEM Trish Kerin.   Highlights of the day included a practical session for the hygiene teams to get their hands on several different types of personal and wearable dust measurement devices that can provide real time warnings for workers of potential exposure to the invisible airborne dust they might encounter at work.  Thanks to our team for their dedication to keeping our people safe! #health #safety #NewmontAustralia
