Set amidst macadamia orchards and undulating hills, the Bundjalung Tribal Society Cultural & Ecotourism Centre honours and sustains Bundjalung cultural heritage.   Crafted by Nguluway DesignInc, the design draws from the Bundjalung people's spiritual bond with the landscape. Inspired by the Goanna— their totem— the layout mimics a winding tail to guide site and spatial planning. Utilising a Designing with Country approach, abstract features draw in the natural environment, reflecting the Bundjalung sense of Belonging to Country.   The centre serves as a cultural haven— a gathering space for the community, a catalyst for Aboriginal agribusiness, and a reimagining of social outcomes for the Bundjalung people. More affordable housing in the heart of Sydney is on the way with City West Housing's Stage 2 development application now on public exhibition.    Nguluway DesignInc were proud to collaborate with City West Housing Pty Ltd and AJC on the delivery of landscape, open space and environmental design for Acacia Apartments, Alexandria. A Designing from Country methodology is central to the scheme's community theme, helping build strong connections between people in an immersive landscape setting. 

Towradgi Station, located on the land of the Wodi Wodi Dharawal People, is a modern, welcoming transport connection upgraded as part of Transport for NSW’s Transport Access Program (TAP). A Designing from Country methodology led by Nguluway DesignInc and DesignInc Sydney in consultation with Traditional Custodians, uses natural and built forms to highlight the Dharawal connection between the station and its surrounds to the nearby ocean. Tree canopies extend visually from the adjacent parkland into the perforated screens along the footbridge and throughout the station. Rough-bark, smooth-bark textures of local Eucalyptus trees are imprinted into concrete lift shafts, emulating their natural beauty while a perforated metal footbridge screen expresses foliage of the tree canopy overhead. The adjacent park is naturalised with native plants that surround curved, cultural sharing spaces that illustrate totemic artwork provided by local community group, Coomaditchie United Aboriginal Corporation. The upgraded station includes a new footbridge, lifts, shelters, an accessible bathroom, improved lighting and wayfinding, and enhanced connections for multi-modal transport and pedestrian access. Embedding cultural practice within rehabilitation.  Located within the Riverina on Wiradjrui Country, this purpose-built Drug + Alcohol Rehabilitation Facility embeds traditional cultural practices as part of its strategy for healing and wellbeing.  Its focus on collective gathering encourages residents to re-establish positive relationships with people and their environment—a culturally safe place that supports wellbeing through the strength of traditional practices.
