A week after the Ausbildungskongress der Bundeswehr and WIN24, we are pleased to announce that the German Wargaming Center (GWC) at the Helmut-Schmidt-Universität/Universität der Bundeswehr Hamburg's Chair of Political Theory (Prof. Dr. Gary S. Schaal) under Co-Directors Philip Schäfer and Dr. Joseph Verbovszky is live! The GWC aims to foster a strategic awareness among current and future civilian and military decision-makers at both national and subnational levels through the deployment of wargaming as a training-, simulation-, and research instrument. Our novel approach includes developing resilience and emergent strategies in the face of an increasing complex threat environment that encompasses all parts of our societies. At the ABK we presented initial results of our research on strategic decision-making using our own "Entanglement" game design that uses cooperative and competitive world-building to explore complex geoeconomic and hyrbid challenges. We are especially grateful to the German Council on Foreign Relations for hosting our games as part of a Strategic Awareness Initiative and to our partners, Bundesakademie für Sicherheitspolitik, CASSIS - Center for Advanced Security, Strategic and Integration Studies, Institut für Sicherheitspolitik an der Universität Kiel (ISPK), University of Potsdam (Chair of War Studies), German Society for Security Policy for their participation. After the ABK, we are also proud to have facilitated a wargame on the competition over deep sea mining rights for the Manfred Wörner Seminar. Thank you Michael Wawrzyniak and Jana Teetz! In addition, we are also pleased to announce our partnership with Führungsakademie der Bundeswehr and Thorsten Kodalle to facilitate the blackout crisis simulation "Neustart." Together with the DGAP, we are strengthening resilience by facilitating games in the DGAP regional forums. We also partner with the Doktrinzentrum der Bundeswehr in facilitating HyDRA, a simulation developed to test Bundeswehr readiness to hybrid threats. 🌍🔍 Wargaming, a cornerstone of modern strategic planning, is crucial for developing Allied resilience and preparing for future emergencies. This week, the strategic stage was set in Hamburg, Germany, as NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) hosted its Wargaming Initiative for #NATO #WIN24 at the Helmut-Schmidt-University. Over 300 participants from 24 Allied nations and 2 partner nations engaged in a series of sophisticated wargaming scenarios, honing their decision-making skills in a meticulously designed, safe-to-fail environment. The #WIN24 initiative provided a platform for strategists to exercise their creativity, agility, and flexibility across 21 diverse scenarios, covering all five warfare domains: air, maritime, land, space, and cyber.
