  • Is this a Christmas miracle? You bet it is! Big Red Bash is taking us back to where it all began—a small, intimate concert atop the iconic Big Red, just like in 2013. And guess who’s headlining? The legendary John Williamson will be serenading the crowd under the vast Outback skies for a truly unforgettable evening. • FAR WEST IN THE SPOTLIGHT The OQTA team recently ventured to Far West Queensland, meeting with the incredible communities that make this region so special.   We had productive discussions with Diamantina Shire Council Mayor Francis Murray, CEO Julianne Meier, and Jason and Patrice from the tourism team, as well as Boulia Shire Council Mayor Eric Britton, CEO Lynne Moore, councillors, and the tourism team’s Paul and Karen.   It was a pleasure connecting with passionate operators, including Ben from the Birdsville Hotel, Shelley from the Boulia Camel Races, and Karen from the Boulia Min Min Encounter.   Partnering with Racheal from Tourism and Events Queensland, we emphasised the vital role events play in building itineraries and driving visitation throughout the Outback Queensland tourism season. • This year’s DestinationQ, hosted by the Queensland Tourism Industry Council, embraced a ‘Future Focused’ theme – and after a few inspiring days with the Queensland tourism community, the future certainly looks promising. The event highlighted exciting advancements in AI and AR technology, showcasing how they can enhance the visitor experience and streamline operations for tourism businesses. Thought-provoking discussions from a range of speakers and panellists provided plenty of takeaways for what’s next in our industry. A standout moment was hearing from Olympic Gold Medallist Ariarne Titmus and Paralympic Gold Medallist Curtis McGrath. Their incredible journeys and insights on reigniting excitement ahead of the 2032 Brisbane Games were both inspiring and motivating. And, of course, a special mention to Sean Choolburra for adding a touch of deadly brilliance to the day! Here’s to a bright future for Queensland tourism. 🌟
