Nourishing Our Country. $1 = 2 meals
About us
Founded by Ronni Kahn AO in 2004, OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation with a driving purpose to ‘Nourish our Country’. Our mission is to stop food waste, feed people in need and protect our planet by championing the value of food and driving change at all levels of society. The impact of our work is strongly aligned to achieving five United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. OzHarvest is best known for our iconic yellow food rescue vans which save over 250 tonnes of good food every week and deliver it direct to charities that feed people in need. We’re also creating positive change through three national education programs (FEAST, NEST and Nourish), and through our advocacy work raising awareness about food security and doing whatever we can to halve Australia’s food waste by 2030. Innovation is part of our DNA and we’re always looking to add value to what we do and find new ways to tackle food waste and feed hungry people. We’re pioneering social impact projects from free supermarkets (OzHarvest Market) and a restaurant (Refettorio OzHarvest) that feeds people in need and creating revenue generating products via OzHarvest Ventures. Our unique for-impact, food rescue model has been implemented across the globe in New Zealand, UK, South Africa, Vietnam and Japan. Every $1 donated allows OzHarvest to deliver 2 meals to people in need.

‘No-brainer’ Bill to increase food donations - rejected by Senate Committee. The proposal to unlock 100 million additional meals per year via a National Food Donation Tax Incentive has been rejected by the Senate Economics Commitee. OzHarvest CEO, James Goth said “this news is extremely disappointing and comes at a time when the need for food relief is so critical.” The proposed Incentive (Bill) would provide a tax benefit to farmers and food manufacturers who donate excess food to help feed people in need, rather than dumping it. Given the annual food waste in Australia is more than 7.6 million tonnes, while 3.4 million households experience food insecurity - we urgently need systems-scale interventions like this Bill to be passed. The Bill is a key recommendation in the Cost of Living inquiry released last week, as well as in several state inquiries looking into food security. It has also received broad support from industry experts, across the food supply chain, and charities at the front-line providing food relief. Described as a no-brainer Bill for families doing it tough, hardworking farmers and the $2 billion in social return it would offer annually, the Senate Committee’s rejection is baffling, especially as similar incentives are already proven and effective in countries such as the United States, Canada and France! In collaboration with our peers in the food relief sector Foodbank Australia and SecondBite/FareShare, we’ll continue to urge decision-makers to support this Bill to fight food waste and help those experiencing food insecurity across the country. https://lnkd.in/d8G3qwgb

The past month has been incredible for OzHarvest! Take a look at all the amazing things we got up to in ‘OzTober’! 💛💛 💛 Laughs, hugs, and heartfelt gratitude filled our ‘Oztober’ Proud Supporter Events across the country celebrating 20 incredible years of ‘Nourishing our Country!’ 💛 Meet Jenn, the powerhouse behind OzHarvest Tas! She’s been busy rescuing food, getting FEAST into schools, rallying volunteers, and building connections with charities, food producers, and community leaders—especially in Launceston, one of Tasmania’s most food-insecure areas. Watch this space! 💛 What a joy it was to welcome HRH Queen Camilla back to OzHarvest! Crowds and media gathered as Ronni introduced the Queen to our partners, ambassadors, board members, chefs, and volunteers. 💛 It all started when Ronni asked Goodman for an office and a van – they said yes, marking the start of an incredible, two decade long partnership! Since then, Goodman has been our steadfast founding partner, supporting our growth at every turn. Thank you, Goodman! WHAT A NIGHT! We’re still in awe of how many of you packed the ICC last night, filling the room with love, purpose, and an undeniable connection to our cause. The energy was electric, the performances were magical and we could feel the ripple effect of goodness, which helps to ‘Nourish our Country.’ Music was the way we chose to unite Australia, and last night was so much MORE than a concert – it’s a call to action! This wasn’t just any event—it was our first-ever concert, born from an idea Ronni Kahn AO had while planning how to celebrate our 20th birthday! We knew we had to dream BIG—not just to mark the milestone, but to shine a light on Australia’s hidden crisis: food insecurity, and raise the crucial funds needed to support those who need it most. So many of you shared that, while you knew people were struggling, you had no idea just how severe the issue really is. We have so many THANK YOUs to give! To the incredible artists who jumped on board with a big “YES” when we pitched this wild idea...each one of you were truly sensational! To Johanna Griggs and Jimmy Rees who held the show together with heart and humour and Sir Bob Geldof for extending his trip to share his wisdom and support for the cause. To our Presenting Partner Woolworths Supermarkets and supporters bp and Suncorp Bank as well as everyone who gave their time, resources, and heart to bring this to life. The amazing production team behind the scenes Supergiant Live, Eat The Elephant, CVP Events, Film & TV, International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney), Mark Sutcliffe, Hilton Rosenthal and Don Elford who made this dream a reality. To everyone who messaged us from across Australia saying you wanted to be there but couldn’t make it—it doesn’t end here! The full show will air on Seven Network on December 3rd, so save the date and join us from wherever you are. This is your way to Unite alongside OzHarvest. We’ll share more details soon... for now, we are still relishing in the gratitude of THE BEST night ever! We are beyond grateful to everyone who has supported us on this journey. We have a big fundraising goal to achieve and every dollar donated makes a difference. Thank you. thank you, thank you! 💛💛 Shout out to Hughes Australia, Land Rover Defender, Crown Sydney, Virgin, Qantas, BioPak, IHG Hotels & Resorts for supporting behind the scenes! Shop like your grandparents - buy loose produce to cut food AND plastic waste! We love this idea from WRAP, calling for a ban on plastic packaging for 21 fruits and vegetables. While some packaging can prevent damage, non-essential packaging (such as on apples and potatoes) just encourages a set purchase amount. Set pack sizes often forces people to buy more than they need, leading to huge amounts of unnecessary waste at home. WRAP estimates a packaging ban on 21 foods could eliminate 100,000 tonnes of fruit & veg from the bin annually and 13,000 tonnes of single-use plastic in the UK. As well as calling on the government to take much-needed action, we can all do our bit at home - choose loose fruit & veg when shopping to cut your food AND plastic waste! https://lnkd.in/djwXKX6H
