And now for something completely different! Our CEO Dean Whiting convened a fun way to review the year that was. PTA’s #DrinksWithDean kicked off with our CEO demonstrating how he makes his favourite cocktail, the classic Negroni. And as he consumed said cocktail, the discussion became progressively more fun. Not surprising given the gorilla with the pink flamingo floaty shirt Dean was wearing. Never-the-less, an outstanding year for PTA and our members was duly reviewed and season’s greetings exchanged. The only thing left to say is, follow PTA on LinkedIn and you too could participate in one of our events. Madeline O'Donoghue Justin Meredith Chami Lam #wearepta

Experiencing migraines and impaired coordination, Kathy was not expecting to come back from hospital with a lung cancer diagnosis. Like over 40% of newly diagnosed lung cancer patients, her cancer was already Stage 4 and terminal. The good news? Genomic testing of Kathy’s cancer identified a specific gene for which there is a targeted treatment. Kathy can take a daily pill that is currently keeping her alive. Genomic testing has spurred an acceleration in understanding of the mutations underlying cancer. We are in an explosive era of targeted therapy development informed by pathology technology. “If every single lung cancer patient in Australia had access to this technology, their treatments will be improved, their outcomes will be improved, their quality of life will be improved” Christa Bayer – Lung Cancer Foundation. Lung cancer is still the deadliest of all cancers in Australia, accounting for almost 9,000 deaths in 2023. However, thanks to more widespread use of personalised treatments informed by genetic testing, 5-year survival rates have more than doubled over the past 30 yrs—now at 24%. Receiving Government funded genetic testing for lung-cancer gene mutations was an almost decade-long process. As our understanding evolves, patients cannot afford more lengthy delays to access updated tests and therapies. We need system-wide evolution in how we fund and provide genetic testing, so patients like Kathy have the best chance of survival. Hear Kathy’s story and the impassioned plea from Lung Cancer Foundation’s Christa Bayer for more timely access to diagnosis and genetic profiling. https://lnkd.in/g4rwZSCc Follow us at Pathology Technology Australia and learn how we are championing for genomic-led cancer care. We draw attention to the shocking discrepancies between men and women and the challenges in men's health this International Men's Day: - Australian men are twice as likely as women to die before 75 years from preventable causes. - Australian men are more than 3 times as likely as women to die from suicide. - Less than 1 in 30 Australian men eat enough fruit and vegetables. - Only 1 in 4 men are *not* overweight or obese. The theme of #InternationalMensDay2024 is "Positive Male Role Models". We believe we need more positive role models in men's preventative health. So we challenge you to play our International Men's Bingo game: - Look through the bingo card in the image below - Count your score and record it in the comment section - Tag a friend who you think needs a boost - Follow us for all the latest information on how pathology technology supports preventative health measures #MensHealth #InternationalMensDay #PreventativeHealth #Diagnostics #PathologyTechnology #WeArePTA Dean Whiting Justin Meredith Jeremy Tyson Colin Denver Simon Giuliano Vito Trifilo Domenic Stranieri
