That’s why we’ve partnered with PetRescue Ltd for their 12 Cats of Christmas campaign, giving 12 long-stay black cats the second chance to find a home this festive season🎄😻 Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll introduce you to these beautiful black cats on our Instagram and Facebook pages. Last Christmas, we celebrated the 12 Pets of Christmas, and with incredible community support, every one of those 12 pets found loving families. ✨ This year, the campaign introduces a new lineup of pets waiting to be adopted, starting with Chloe—a big-hearted girl who has been waiting 477 days for a family. PetRescue’s free adoption platform remains a resource for rescue organisations, councils, and shelters, connecting them with pet lovers and providing essential support for vulnerable pets and their guardians in times of crisis. It's all about paw-sitive vibes here at Council! Did you know our Companion Animal Shelter provides a safe haven for unwanted and impounded dogs and cats from the Hawkesbury, Penrith, Hills Shire, Hornsby, and Cumberland Council areas? We’re proud to give these animals a second chance at finding their forever homes! In the 2023/2024 year, our shelter introduced a range of initiatives and improvements that have made a real difference for the animals in our care and within the Hawkesbury LGA. Some highlights include: 👉Launched our new website hawkesburycas.com.au, making it easier for the community to connect with us! 👉 Introduction of shelter management software. 👉Hosted a successful microchipping event, with 30 dogs and 15 cats microchipped for free to help keep Hawkesbury pets safe. 👉Offered discounted desexing for pensioners and low-income residents to support responsible pet ownership. 👉 Held Santa Paws for fun photo opportunities with furry friends. 👉Installed new meet-and-greet yards for relaxed dog introductions with new families. 👉 Added underfloor heating to dog kennels for extra comfort. 👉The cattery had a major glow-up with new kitty condos and meeting spaces. 👉Introduced engraved pet tags ($10) for adopted or reclaimed pets. 👉Updated signage with a colourful, friendly new look and logo. Also, we’re excited to announce that we are now fully integrated with PetRescue Ltd! PetRescue is more than just a pet adoption site—it’s a vital resource hub and a key player in the animal services network. Their support helps shelters and communities thrive.
