  • Is Australia better prepared? NO If we were to have another pandemic like the COVID-19 pandemic, the Australian Pathology workforce is severely depleted due to being undervalued by their employer. Additionally many workers were faced with a unsafe environments and still are exposed to this virus without proper consultation or consideration for their own protection. The Australian Pathology workforce would not mobilise to become the frontline defence it was during the COVID pandemic because they have still not been recognised for the role they played in Australian defence strategy and if you need to see it, read the federal governments Covid Review that was recently released. Five years ago on 31 December 2019, WHO’s Country Office in China picked up a media statement by the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission from their website on cases of ‘viral pneumonia’ in Wuhan, China. In the weeks, months and years that unfolded after that, #COVID19 came to shape our lives and our world.    At WHO, we went to work immediately as the new year dawned. WHO employees activated emergency systems on 1 January 2020, and informed the world on 4 January. By 9-12 January, WHO had published its first set of comprehensive guidance for countries, and on 13 January, we brought together partners to publish the blueprint of the first SARS-CoV-2 laboratory test.    All along, we convened experts and ministries of health from around the world, gathered and analysed data, and shared what was reported, what we learned and what it meant for people. 🔗Read about WHO’s actions here: https://bit.ly/3neFefP    As we mark this milestone, let’s take a moment to honour the lives changed and lost, recognize those who are suffering from COVID-19 and #LongCOVID, express gratitude to the health workers who sacrificed so much to care for us, and commit to learning from COVID-19 to build a healthier tomorrow.    We continue to call on China to share data and access so we can understand the origins of COVID-19. This is a moral and scientific imperative. Without transparency, sharing, and cooperation among countries, the world cannot adequately prevent and prepare for future epidemics and pandemics.    Today, as often, we pose this question: “is the world better prepared for the next pandemic than we were for COVID-19?” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus responds ⏬

  • This is marketing being pushed to the absolute limits of audacity, 'Health Misinformation' and 'Keeping Pathology Bulk Billed' in the same sentence by the same company that will introduce gap fees to the Australian Public if not handed more funding to keep their profit margins the same as when they were the ONLY business sector making profits from the Covid Pandemic. Mark Butler is the Federal Government ready to rethink how we tender Medicare Eligibility to Private Pathology Providers so we can protect Bulk Billing Pathology Testing yet?

The Role of Pathology in Combatting Health Misinformation Misinformation poses a significant challenge to public health, especially in the digital age where many Australians turn to the internet for health advice. It’s important for individuals to seek guidance from healthcare professionals to ensure accurate diagnoses and appropriate care. Pathology plays a vital role in this process, informing 70% of medical decisions, providing the reliable, evidence-based information that is crucial for informed health choices. However, the pathology sector has faced a 25-year freeze on indexation rates, which threatens access and sustainability of these essential services. Ensuring affordable pathology services is vital for all Australians, especially as misinformation continues to impact health decisions. It's time for the Federal Government to address this freeze and support the critical role that pathology plays in our healthcare system. Advocate for increased funding to help protect this essential service for our communities. Visit Australian Pathology's website to see how you can contribute to this important cause and help keep these vital services accessible: https://bit.ly/4g9IZxX For more insights from our research, check out the full report here: https://bit.ly/49atN1d

Employers have attacked Labor’s tough new laws criminalising the deliberate underpayment of workers as a “sop to unions” that would be used to threaten businesses, sharpening the political fight over workplace relations ahead of the federal election. The ACTU said the new underpayment regime would help prevent the unlawful exploitation of vulnerable workers. Workplace Relations Minister Murray Watt said the long-awaited wage-theft laws, to come into force from January 1, would mean it would “finally” be a criminal offence to deliberately underpay workers. “Businesses deliberately doing the wrong thing will be caught, and will be charged,” Senator Watt said. Employers who intentionally underpaid workers could face criminal charges carrying penalties of up to 10 years’ imprisonment for individuals. Maximum financial penalties range from more than $1.6m for individuals and more than $8m for companies. The government stressed the offence would not apply to honest mistakes and would not apply to employers that inadvertently underpaid workers. While intended to be used as a last resort, the government says the criminal penalties are designed to target unscrupulous, deliberate conduct that denies workers their entitlements and undercuts businesses that are doing the right thing. https://lnkd.in/gVmkbiiD

  • Although your workplace may make you feel like you are helping your fellow coworkers out, you are not. You are helping the company to justify not hiring so there are suitable staff to not cause burnout for the existing staff ... and agreeing to devalue your skills. Whilst we fight to increase the value of your time, it is imperative that you stand strong as individuals and refuse to work for less than what your employer is legally required to pay you. If you feel you have no choice, then it is most definitely crossing the line and you should contact your Peak Body, the PCA as soon as possible for advice. https://lnkd.in/g8TDnQG4 #PathologyMatters #pathologyprofessionalsmatter
