It was a night filled with fun and laughter this week when our staff joined the Imperial Hotel Drag Trivia night in celebration of #MardiGras! 🏳️🌈 Organised by our LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group, it was a great opportunity to celebrate diversity and learn more about the rich history of the LGBTQ+ community. We had two teams competing, and we’re proud to share Port Authority came in second place despite some challenging questions!   We’re proud to be a Diversity Council Australia Ltd Inclusive Employer, and our five Employee Resource Groups are helping us take strides towards creating an even more inclusive workplace.   #Pride #LGBTQ

Ahoy there! Our bumper summer cruise season has seen five cruise ships make maiden visits to regional NSW ports in the last week alone.  In Eden, Royal Caribbean Group Ovation of the Seas became the largest-ever ship to visit the port carrying a record-breaking 4,862 passengers, while Viking brought international visitors aboard Venus and Orion. Newcastle welcomed Princess Cruises Diamond Princess, the largest vessel to the port this season, as well as Phoenix Reisen GmbH Amadea during her 128-night world cruise.  Our biggest cruise season on record is bringing thousands of international and domestic travellers to regional shores, boosting local economies and cementing NSW as the cruise capital of Australia.  📷 Ovation of the Seas in Eden pictured with some of our fantastic team, Lana Wills, Susan Yates and Peter Lipman. #visitnsw #cruise #cruising  

Meet Matt English, Hydrographic Surveyor, who’s spent 8 years in our world-class Survey team. Matt credits the calibre and camaraderie of the broader Operations team with enabling him to take precise measurements of the seabed, ensuring accurate information for safe navigation. “Every day I work closely with Port Officers, Harbour Masters and Vessel Traffic Services to ensure the port operates safely. “The biggest strength of the Survey team is our expertise in our field, which is a comfort because you’re not on your own. Drumroll please… our iconic Sydney Harbour has been named Best Cruise Port by readers of Cruise Passenger in 2024! This is the sixth year and third in a row that Sydney has taken the crown, celebrated by international and domestic cruisers alike. Racing in Sydney Harbour this weekend is the Australian SailGP, where 12 F50 foiling catamarans will make waves at breathtaking speeds of up to 100 kilometers an hour! We’re thrilled our Glebe Island facilities have served as the base for teams in the lead up to the race, helping to stage this global event and showcase Sydney as a world-class location for visitors and sporting enthusiasts alike. Meet Cori York-Dumbleton, fourth generation mariner and Port Officer at Port Kembla.   Cori’s passion for a career in maritime began as a young child, following in the footsteps of her great grandfather, grandfather and dad who worked on steam and tugboats.    “I love the diversity of my work, as no two days are the same. Meet Port Officer and Engineer, Alex Francis, part of our Newcastle team. Alex has spent 30 years mastering life on the water, with the first 10 in the Hydrographic Survey department and the last 20 years on our pilot boats.  “It’s such a rewarding job. We’ve got a great team of people in the background to ensure that what we do on these boats is successful and safe. We’ve got people from all corners of the globe on our team and they all bring their own individual skills and experience to create an amazing team here at Newcastle,” he says. “They say a person’s very fortunate to do something they love for their career, and I’ve had 30 years of it.
