St James’s Hospital Dublin has rolled out its visual hospital management system (VHMS) hospital-wide, picking up a Health Service Executive health service excellence award in association with HSE Dublin and Midlands. The integrated patient flow management system, developed by Irish company Centuri Analytics, has been used in the hospital’s emergency department (ED) for a number of years, and proved vital during the COVID-19 pandemic. #ehealth #healthit #digitalhealth #PulseIT

One of the biggest news stories in Australian digital health in a decade was the announcement by the Australian Digital Health Agency of a new, national Health Information Exchange, which was revealed at a very detailed industry briefing in July. That news would continue to dominate the rest of the year in digital health in Australia, along with AI scribes, NSW Health’s Single Digital Patient Record, and some very welcome news on eReferrals. #ehealth #healthit #digitalhealth #PulseIT

A second urgent request in as many months for cyber security funding at Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora has seen implementation of an “improvement programme” that will run until mid next year. Yesterday, Pulse+IT reported on an apparent $3.5 million funding shortfall for Health NZ’s Cyber Security Uplift (CSU) programme, as well the threat of a “funding cliff” for the programme in 2026. #ehealth #healthit #digitalhealth #PulseIT

The second quarter of the 2024 year in digital health continued to see the meteoric rise in the application of AI in healthcare, along with more progress in virtual care, more largesse dispensed in a big-spending 2024 federal budget, and one of the largest data breaches in Australian history when MediSecure was hacked. It also saw Salesforce making big inroads in healthcare, the first release of Australia’s core data for interoperability from Sparked, and InterSystems rolling out ambient listening technology in TrakCare. #ehealth #healthit #digitalhealth #PulseIT

A major cyber security project at Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora faces a $3.5 million funding shortfall this year, as well as a “funding cliff” in 2026, according to documents seen by Pulse+IT. Obtained under the Official Information Act, an aide-mémoire regarding Health NZ’s Cyber Security Uplift (CSU) programme was provided to Health Minister Shane Reti by Health NZ’s then chief of data and digital Leigh Donoghue in September this year, about a month before Mr Donoghue’s role was disestablished. #ehealth #healthit #digitalhealth #PulseIT

2024 kicked off with topics that would resonate for the rest of the year, including the growth of digital front door solutions, problems implementing large EMRs, the seven-day delay for #MyHealthRecord, AI, various digital health blueprints, action plans and strategies, and Telstra Health rationalising its platforms. #MyMedicare was a big deal, as was Australian work on #FHIR, virtual care solutions and the 2024 ITAC conference for aged care IT. #ehealth #healthit #digitalhealth #PulseIT

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora's "annus horribilis” was also a disastrous year for the beleaguered staff of its Data & Digital division. Detailed plans for deploying some major foundations for a modern health system got the heave-ho, as did a whole lot of staff. It was a good year for rhetorical flourishes, however, including an ugly baby, an old banger, technical gobbledygook and “putting King Herod in charge of babysitting services”. #ehealth #healthit #digitalhealth #PulseIT #2024YearinReview

Despite a horror year for Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora there were some good news stories in the top 10 most read stories on Pulse+IT. The new Dunedin Hospital’s IT plans were of interest, particularly the best of breed approach it has taken for patient flow and wayfinding. An artificial intelligence-assisted clinical coding pilot for hospital admissions was big, as was our story on digital assistance to do the heavy lifting for GP inboxes. There were also good news stories on the NZ Patient Summary and the digital modernisation program, but whether they will survive the budget cuts is another matter. #ehealth #healthit #digitalhealth #PulseIT
