As we approach the end of the year (already?!) we wanted to take a moment to wish you all the best for the holiday season. The world may be volatile and business unpredictable, but one thing remains constant: the joy of connection with loved ones over the holiday season. In the spirit of the holidays, we at RBL reflect on another year of partnership and collaboration, as well as the moments where things didn't exactly go as planned but somehow still turned out okay. That’s the business world for you. Looking ahead, we remain committed to supporting you in navigating whatever challenges or opportunities 2025 may bring. Whether it’s a new market trend, unexpected regulatory change, or the annual debate over whether it's too late to send out holiday cards, we’re here to help you make sense of it all. Please accept our warmest wishes for a restful holiday season filled with whatever constitutes “peace” for you (whether it’s a delicious BBQ, a strong company performance or a good nap). We look forward to continuing our work together next year. We're still here for your business needs right through summer. Some of the team will be enjoying a holiday break so please direct your enquiries to rob@rankinbusinesslawyers.com

There are significant changes coming to the franchising industry. New regulations and a re-drafted Franchising Code of Conduct are set to begin from 1 April 2025. The Franchising Code of Conduct (the Code) aims to ensure fairness in the franchising sector by addressing potential issues resulting from the power imbalance between franchisors and franchisees. Both franchisors and franchisees must follow the Code, and are required to act in good faith in their business dealings with each other. The Code also covers rules relating to: 👉🏻 the information that franchisees must receive prior to entering an agreement 👉🏻 cooling-off periods for and early termination of franchise agreements; and 👉🏻 dispute resolution processes, including arbitration prior to court proceedings. You can find out more about the changes by visiting our most recent blog post here - https://bit.ly/3YXaJA2 #rankinbusinesslawyers #rbl #melbournelawyer #businesslaw #lawfirm

One of the most common pain points our clients have is that they don’t have the resources in the beginning to help avoid employment disputes further down the track. Find out how we can help to prevent that. #rankinbusinesslawyers #rbl #melbournelawyer #businesslaw #lawfirm

The 2024 Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Bill gives power to the Attorney-General to make an ‘eligible data breach declaration’ where an eligible data breach (i.e. a notifiable data breach) occurs. The ‘eligible data breach declaration’ allows for limited sharing and handling of personal information solely for permitted purposes where such a disclosure would mitigate or prevent the risk of harm to individuals. An example of how the ‘eligible data breach declaration’ could be useful is that big entities (for example banks or financial institutions) will promptly implement further measures to prevent the use of compromised credentials to prevent financial crime.
