Thoroughly stellar launch to *Imagine Northern Rivers*, a project led by futurist Carmen Stewart FutureScapes Consultancy. The launch took place at The Farm, Byron Bay, on Bunjalung Country, 24 November, with a wonderful group gathered. Carmen explained that Imagine Northern Rivers is about building an inclusive movement through many conversations and workshops across the region, that surface community aspirations and opportunities to advance regenerative, adaptive and connected futures. The questions she is asking are: What do these futures look like? How can we get there? And what’s needed to align and leverage missions for impact? We wholeheartedly agree: Let’s accelerate the shift away from business-as-usual towards community-led futures that are socially, environmentally, culturally and economically regenerative. There is a lot of healing to do. 🙏 🌳 Thank you Hills and Coasts for having Regen Labs and a diverse range of partners and collaborators on Peramangk Country this week! Exciting times as we explore the shift towards regenerative finance! 🚀 Regen Labs is in the midst of a feasibility study for a pilot-scale Regen Community Investment Fund. This week, as part of this, we led a co-design session in the Hills and Coasts Region, partnering with local associate Matthew Wright-Simon of Engage Change. The gathering brought together an inspiring and motivated group of local enterprises from seaweed farming to affordable housing, as well as local government leaders, landscape trusts, civic organisations, and philanthropic leaders. Together, we engaged in meaningful conversations and design inquiry about how finance can be a powerful catalyst for positive change. We were left with hope and optimism of the potential of working together, to create a finance and fund model that is generative, not extractive, that will bring lasting benefits to regional communities and ecosystems. 💪🌍 We’re deeply grateful that our day began with truth telling and Welcome to Peramangk Country by Uncle Eric 'Wally' Richards. It was a moving beginning to a day of conversation about how finance can be a healing force; a conversation supported by a purpose-designed message stick created by Dave Booth, cultural leader. This message stick will be carried to other places and conversations! The collective insights for a Fund design were many, including: ❤️ Emphasise diverse forms of value creation beyond just financial returns 🤝 Co-design a fund collaboratively and in reciprocity with nature and the local community 🌱 Develop pathways for funding that align with regional values 🔍 Foster trust through transparency and honesty in our processes 💰 Ensure adequate funding for projects – inclusive of payments to weavers, teachers and storytellers to support true regeneration 🕰️ Commit to long-term relationships—10+ years—to navigate the complexities we face 🤲 Ensure the processes and Fund parameters are culturally safe and support growth of intergenerational wealth in First Nations communities. 💦 How might we fund the shift to a regenerative economy? Together with people and places with potential. Regen Labs is excited to be stewarding one of our existing place-based collaborations through the next phase of evolution. See below for details. What we truly value in our communities and natural places isn’t always matched by the way our economy functions. People and communities are increasingly seeking ways of living and working that restores our environment, builds social connection and a sense of belonging, creates climate resilience, builds wealth locally, and enhances wellbeing. Regenerative enterprises, that are place-sourced and community-led, offer a change from business as usual, and a pathway towards these goals. However, access to the right kind of funding and finance can be elusive and an ongoing constraint to possibility. What is exciting, is that there is a growing global movement to find ways to empower and fund regeneration, at bioregional, island, regional, city, and village scales.  Innovations in regenerative finance are emerging at all levels. Regen Labs is working to innovate in this space, and doing it by bringing together networks of collaborators - enterprises, public agencies, family offices, investors, foundations, community organisations - who are all energised by catalysing the transition to a regenerative economy. 🌟 We're excited that on 22 October we will be working on Peramangk Country, to explore and co-design funding pathways with 30 regenerative enterprises, catalytic investors, community leaders, innovators and government agencies, in the beautiful Adelaide Hills and Coasts region of South Australia.
