Real change in this place often starts with the relentless efforts of a dedicated few who champion important causes, so it was my honour to rise to recognise one such leader-of-change. Jane Tiller (PhD), from Monash University, has been awarded Research Australia’s Health & Medical Research Advocacy Award for 2024. This prestigious honour celebrates her outstanding work advocating for Australians' protection against genetic discrimination in life insurance. Congratulations Dr. Jane Tiller and thank you to all the advocates who walk the halls of Parliament House, striving to make our nation better.

Research Australia’s Head of Policy and Advocacy, Talia Avrahamzon is at the National Innovation Policy Forum, hosted by Cooperative Research Australia. With a theme of Policy Innovation to Foster a New Australian Business Model, the health and medical research innovation pipeline is central. We need a whole of systems approach- across portfolios and governments, smarter investment including leveraging our government’s significant procurement power to increase opportunities for Australian businesses; a strong research active workforce; and innovation needs to include a focus on prevention. Collaboration centring diversity across sectors will foster innovation. Great to hear from our Board Member Annette Schmiede. #2024nipf

🦠This week is World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness week. 🦠 Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) threatens everyone; from cancer patients who are more susceptible to infections to young children who are in close contact in care environments where germs can spread quickly. Australia needs a comprehensive societal approach if we are to mitigate the impact of AMR. Our ability to reduce AMR’s future impact hinges on how well we collaborate, invest, and act today. Together with CSIRO, Research Australia held a stakeholder roundtable in August 2024, bringing together experts in AMR to build consensus on key priorities to achieve optimal prescribing in primary and community healthcare settings, in order to minimise AMR. Read and share the roundtable communique here: https://lnkd.in/gniMHXaY #WAAW24 l #AMR l #WHO l World Health Organization
