Germany is one of my beloved countries. In fact, I was so engrossed by the history and greatness of the european superpower & economic leader when I first visited Berlin around 15 years ago, that I decided to pursue a move to Germany. I even completed two semesters at the Goethe-Institut Nigeria and secured an assignment for a senior manager role at EY Germany eight years ago. Other factors outside of my control did not align for the move to happen. Nonetheless I remained fascinated by the culture, language and history of the country. When the opportunity came to be a speaker at the Accountants Group in Germany's (AGIG) 89th Seminar held in Frankfurt, I was overjoyed. Big thank you to Anthony for the invitation & Andreia and Jakub for the connection. Pre-seminar dinner and networking was held at Davinc Cucina E Vino. I presented on “Preparing for Implementation of European Sustainability Reporting Standards/Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and IFRS 18” to about 30 senior finance leaders gathered at Novotel Frankfurt City and others joining via link from across the country. The seminar afforded me the privilege of meeting other accountants from ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, ICAS - The Professional Body of CAs, CIPFA and Chartered Accountants Ireland - ACA Professionals, who provided their unique perspectives, critiqued and challenged some of the evolutions in sustainability/corporate reporting. Special thanks to the President Neville, Vice President Ulla-Martina (who had reached out 18 months ago, inviting me to speak at a previous seminar but I missed the message) and other members of the committee for their volunteer work and leadership. AGIG represents more than 1,400 qualified accountants resident in Germany, by providing professional and business development opportunities (through regular seminars), and opportunity for networking to members.
