Developments both locally and globally in the last few years have put human rights into sharp focus. While promising so much in terms of securing the rights of the vulnerable and minority communities, human rights are often blunted by the challenges of partisan politics and divisive public discourse. How should we approach the challenges and opportunities of human rights today? How can we strengthen their potential, and persevere with determination through the challenges that stand in our way? Scott McDougall is the Commissioner at the Queensland Human Rights Commission, the position in which he has served in since 2018.
