  • The birds, the bees, the trees, and the sneeze. You may notice the sun peeking through the clouds, lambs in the paddocks, and clouds of pollen heading straight up your nose. 👃 But what is pollen, and why does it make some people sneezy? Pollen grains are part of a plant’s reproduction, they are tiny, and are designed to travel to flowers -for example by sticking to insects or birds or carried in the wind. Airborne pollen is the main problem for hay fever sufferers. Winds and storms can stir up the pollen into the air making hay fever worse. Roughly 21% of South Aussies suffer from allergic rhinitis, more commonly known as hay fever. Symptoms can include: 🤧 Sneezing 💧 Itchy, runny nose 👀 Itchy, watery eyes 😲 Itchy throat 👃 Blocked nose If you would like to learn more about causes, testing, and treatment, head to our website: https://lnkd.in/g8BrZ_Vv

  • ⚠️ Be aware of thunderstorm asthma! This spring, there is an increased risk of thunderstorm. The official risk period has begun, so let’s prepare for another challenging grass pollen season. Thunderstorm asthma can occur when pollen is drawn up into clouds during a storm, causing the pollen to swell and burst. These particles can then trigger severe asthma symptoms. If you're at risk: 🏚️ Stay indoors on days with high pollen counts and during thunderstorms. 💨 If you have asthma use your preventer inhaler regularly. 🌾 If you suffer from hay fever, take antihistamines. Learn more about hay fever causes, symptoms, and treatment options on our website: https://lnkd.in/g8BrZ_Vv Remember, prevention is key! #StaySafe #AsthmaAwareness

  • Spring…ing a leak? Spring’s arrival brings warmer weather, blossoms and for some, drippy noses and itchy eyes. They can be symptoms of hay fever - caused by an allergic response to grass and tree pollens that increase in the air at this time of the year. Hay fever can be more than a nuisance; people suffering hay fever may also be at risk of developing asthma – in Australia, at least three out of four people with asthma also have allergic rhinitis (hay fever). Effective management helps avoid serious acute allergic reactions like thunderstorm asthma. Read more on our website: https://ow.ly/Zx7a50TCUbi
