- Throwback Thursday - A Christchurch Landmark Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre is a unique symbol for the city and the people of Christchurch. After the devastating earthquakes of 2011, the Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre underwent an impressive rebuild. Designed by renowned architecture firm, Woods Bagot and New Zealand’s own, WARREN AND MAHONEY. The Building was completed in 2022 - after four years, 3 million hours of labour, 450 million dollars and 43,000 lineal metres of Sculptform Timber Click-on Battens. Led by principal architect Bruno Mendes of Woods Bagot, the completed Te Pae stands as its own piece of civic architecture amid the continuing re-mending of the city, celebrating and reflecting the region’s multi-cultural heritage. “Unlike conventional convention centres, which tend to be a generic 'big box', the building is smaller in scale and wrapped in a fluid façade. Views from the function room back to Cathedral Square; the opening out onto Victoria Square; the leaning toward the river – these were very specific moves to make the building engage strongly with what's around it.” Woods Bagot. This unique project is characterised by a calming, tactile material palette and spaces designed to encourage reflection, privacy, and connection. Sculptform played a key role in achieving the refined design vision through the integration of Click-on Battens and customised Click-on Screens that seamlessly conceal structural elements with adaptive detailing. Marathon Modular had the privilege of designing a brand-new state of the art learning facility for Manning Valley Anglican College. We utilised Sculptform timber battens to elevate this facade, adding a refined touch of natural warmth and texture.
