She is responsible for leading the development and implementation of major policies and programs to enhance medical research capacity in NSW, and raise the profile of NSW research and development nationally and internationally. She is responsible for the NSW Medical Device Fund and NSW Commercialisation Training Program – both have been critical to accelerating the development of NSW intellectual property and the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs in NSW. She holds a Bachelor of Science (Physiology and Pharmacology) (Hons) and an Executive Masters of Public Administration. - Kea Dent, MBA, GAICD, RAC (KD&A Pty Ltd) journey commenced in 1993 when she set up and managed a medical device manufacturing business. Last week, Warsaw, IN became a hub for innovation as our Medtech startups gathered for Focus Days! 🚀 These days are designed to strengthen our cohort, foster connections, and provide immersive learning experiences. Startups engaged with corporate partners, gained valuable insights, and formed meaningful relationships. They connected with mentors who shared expertise and guidance. The agenda featured workshops, a lunch and learn, and tours of Zimmer Biomet and Paragon Medical's cutting-edge facilities showcasing the local medtech ecosystem’s innovation. 🌟 What an inspiring and empowering session at our HerStory: Empowering Diverse Female Entrepreneurs event! It began with an insightful keynote from Lance Chia GAICD, Director of Investment and Innovation at Liverpool Innovation Precinct . Lance introduced the LIP and highlighted its vital role in fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaboration in South Western Sydney. Our incredible panelists shared their personal experiences with such authenticity, addressing challenges like cultural barriers, leadership, and work-life balance. - Dai Le MP, Federal Member for Fowler, shared her remarkable unplanned career path from journalist to startup founder to politician. She offered invaluable tips on breaking the glass ceiling and maintaining work-life balance. 💡 volunteering opportunities are available with Dai's office, more details in the comment; - Professor Olivia Mirza, President of Engineers Australia Sydney Division and Professor in Structural Engineering at Western Sydney University, shared her journey of migrating to Australia, tips for workplace safety and work-life balance, and encouraged the audience to be proud of their accents. 💡Aspire and Wow are two programs Olivia initiated to support Indigenous people and women in engineering, details in the comment; - Dr. Maryam Parviz, Co-founder and CEO of SDIP Innovations, shared her entrepreneurial journey of inventing and raising investment. We recently visited SDIP Innovations Pty. Ltd., which achieved a spot on this year's Australia's 50 Most Innovative Manufacturers list, and spoke to co-founder and CEO Maryam Parviz, Phd for the podcast. Parviz’s company got started in 2018 to commercialise JAZBI, a bone filler made of a mix of ceramic, polymer and carbohydrate materials. The porous material is designed to fill a void, encourage the growth of new bone, and safely dissolve into carbon dioxide and water. Co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer Dr Iman Manavitehrani studied biodegradable implants for his PhD, before postdoctoral work at Westmead Children’s Hospital exposed him to the woes of patients needing repeat surgeries after outgrowing implants, inspiring the development of what would become JAZBI. The company aims to have their first product in a patient as early as next year.
