Senquip has selected Quectel modules, antennas, and certification services to support its devices, ensuring reliable performance and meeting the highest industry standards. "We use the Quectel BG96 and EG91 modules that allow us to operate in most regions of the world with a single footprint. For our next generation of telemetry products, we will be upgrading to the EG912U and BG95 to offer true global operation and satellite options", said Norman Ballard, CEO of Senquip. 🔗 To find out more: https://lnkd.in/dCjX65kX

  • 🫨Remote Vibration Monitoring🫨 Senquip have partnered with Danish company Kjaerulf Pedersen a/s to enable remote vibration monitoring over a low bandwidth connection. Vibration monitoring and the detection of changes in vibration patterns is a key technique used in equipment health monitoring. Typically, high speed monitoring systems are required, making remote vibration monitoring data hungry and expensive. The KPV200 vibration sensor measures vibration at up to 1600Hz, performing FFT analysis on the sensor and providing 128 frequency bins that are communicated remotely with a Senquip device. Senquip have updated device firmware to allow communication with KPV200 and have added a frequency widget to the Senquip Portal. Applications include equipment health monitoring of ventilation fans, pumps, crushers, conveyors, and mills, and the detection of early signs of wear, misalignment, or imbalance. Senquip strives to continuously improve the value of our product to our customers by adding functionality at no additional cost. #senquip #remotemonitoring #conditionmonitoring #vibrationmonitoring #iiot

  • 🎄 Wind Monitoring on the Harrods Christmas Display 🎄   This past holiday season, Senquip had the privilege of contributing to the iconic Harrods Christmas display in London! Using our telemetry devices, we helped Sculptivate Ltd monitor wind speeds in real-time, ensuring the safety and stability of their stunning decorations during winter storms.   A big shoutout to Hydrotechnik UK Test Engineering Limited, our UK distributor, for delivering a reliable solution and providing exceptional support to Sculptivate.   As Ben from Sculptivate shared: “The remote wind speed monitoring and alert system provided by the team at Hydrotechnik gave us a true sense of security with real-time wind speed data. When forecasters issued warnings of 60mph gusts, we reassured stakeholders that localized wind speeds were much lower. Knowing we had a robust alert system in place allowed us to plan proactively, not reactively.”   We’re proud to see Senquip devices making a difference worldwide.   #IoT #Telemetry #Harrods #Senquip #Hydrotechnik #Sculptivate #ChristmasDisplay

  • After yesterdays post on the differences between RS232 and RS485, we have been asked a few times why RS485 is more noise immune. It is because RS485 uses a differential signalling method. Here's how it works, and why it's effective: 🔗 Differential Signalling in RS485: RS485 uses two wires to carry a pair of signals that are exact opposites (one is the inverse of the other). The receiving device compares the difference between the two signals to interpret the data. Since external noise usually affects both wires equally (common-mode noise), the difference between the signals remains unchanged, effectively cancelling out the noise. This is the reason that twisted-pair cables are often used in RS485 – the twisting ensures that both wires are exposed to the same noise levels, enhancing noise rejection. ⛓️💥 Why RS232 is More Susceptible to Noise: RS232 uses single-ended signalling, where data is sent over a single wire relative to a ground reference. Any noise affecting the signal line or the ground reference directly impacts the signal, making it harder to filter out. Saying RS485 is the winner is a bit disingenuous. As mentioned in the previous post, each has its advantages: choose RS232 if you need a simple, low-cost solution for point-to-point communication over short distances and use for RS485 when building a robust, long-distance network involving multiple devices, especially in noisy industrial settings. #senquip #remotemonitoring #remotecontrol #rs485 #rs232

  • RS232 and RS485 are standards for serial interfaces that each specify the transmission media and a defined set of logic levels, data rates and timings. These are some of the oldest serial interfaces around, yet they are still very widely used in control and measurement equipment, mainly due to their simplicity and low cost. RS232: The Simplicity Specialist 🟢 Very widely used, especially on older equipment 🟢 Full duplex communications (simultaneous transmit and receive ) 🔴 Only supports communication between two devices 🔴 Only works over short distances of about 15m 🔴 Relatively susceptible to electrical noise RS485: The Networking Powerhouse 🟢 Supports several devices on the same bus (multi-drop) 🟢 Differential signals offer high electrical noise immunity 🟢 Works over longer distances of up to 1200m 🟢 Supports faster transfer speeds than RS232 🟠 Requires termination resistors 🔴 Half-duplex communications (transmit or receive, not simultaneously) Choose RS232 if you need a simple, low-cost solution for point-to-point communication over short distances, such as connecting to a nearby sensor. Opt for RS485 when building a robust, long-distance network involving multiple devices, especially in industrial settings. Senquip devices support both RS232 and RS485 interfaces, allowing you to make the right choice for your specific application. #senquip #remotemonitoring #remotecontrol #rs485 #rs232

  • This week started with yet more insolvencies in the Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) space. #NNNCo, Australia’s #LoRaWAN network operator entered voluntary liquidation on 15th November, and #SimpleCell, the #Sigfox operator in the Czech Republic shut down. This follows dozens of other LoraWAN and Sigfox closures over the past 24 months. Interestingly, AT&T followed NT Docomo in announcing the end of support for NB-IoT. This is hardly surprising; to survive as an operator selling minute amounts of data at very low cost, requires millions of subscribers. There just aren’t that many golden opportunities. With the cost of 4G and 5G LTE modems continuing to fall, and satellite direct to cell services launching from SpaceX and others in 2025, why would you continue to fund a proprietary terrestrial network. Through good fortune or foresight, #Senquip has invested in 4G, 5G and satellite direct to cell technologies. This places us well to provide telemetry devices that support global coverage, even where there is no terrestrial infrastructure. #senquip #iiot #remotemonitoring #remotecontrol
