"It's such a tragedy that gold, copper and other precious metals are just ending up in landfill rather than being recycled." - Tanya Plibersek, Minister for the Environment and Water at the Australian Government. At our facility in Villawood yesterday, The Hon. Tanya Plibersek MP, John Thwaites and members of the Circular Economy Ministerial Advisory Group launched their national circular economy plan, which will see Australia recycle or reuse 80 per cent of the nation's resources by 2035. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) joined us to hear the highlights and recommendations from the Circular Economy Framework, captured here: https://lnkd.in/ghS_VyDr The plan comes at a critical time - Australians currently generate 22kg of e-waste per person annually, with most being shipped overseas. The framework's impact could be transformative: -- 26 million tonnes of materials diverted from landfill -- 14% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2035 -- 30% extension in material lifecycles At Sircel, we're help deliver this vision every day. As Australia's largest onshore e-waste processor, our operations can divert up to 100% of electronic waste from landfill, recovering critical materials like copper, steel and aluminium for reuse. "We're already deeply invested in the circular economy - we're committed to its success," says our CEO Anthony Karam. "This framework will set organisations and decision makers on the path we need to take." #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #Innovation #EWaste #ResourceRecovery #AustralianManufacturing

Yesterday we were honoured to host The Hon. Tanya Plibersek, Minister for Environment and Water, and members of the parliamentary Circular Economy Ministerial Advisory Group at our Villawood facility. The Australian Government has delivered Australia's first National Circular Economy Framework, which sets an ambitious goal of doubling our nation's circularity rate by 2035. The overarching goal is supported by 3 targets: 1. Reducing material footprint by 10% 2. Lifting materials productivity by 30% 3. Safely recovering 80% of our resources. As an Australian owned and operated resource regeneration business, we are actively supporting these targets and are an important part of Australia's journey towards a more circular future, where today's waste becomes tomorrow's resource. Thank you to Minister Plibersek and the Advisory Group for recognising the role of innovative Australian businesses like Sircel, in driving this crucial economic and environmental transition. #ResourceRegeneration #CircularEconomy

"When batteries are thrown in the garbage bin or not disposed of correctly, they become ticking time bombs." -- Penny Sharpe This resonates deeply with us and we applaud the NSW Government's commitment to leading effective battery product stewardship legislation in 2025. With 275 battery-related incidents in NSW this year—five every week—and a 66% increase in lithium-ion battery fires between 2022-2023, the need for change is clear. The pending regulations will require battery suppliers to ensure safe disposal and management throughout the battery lifecycle, from design to end-of-life disposal, and will help keep these volatile materials out of waste facilities. Safety isn't just a priority at Sircel -- it's our foundation -- and we will always support policies that drive a safer, more sustainable future for our industry and our community. Recent consumer research conducted by Sircel highlights a significant gap in Australia’s e-waste practices and what everyday Australians want. While each Australian generates an average of 22kg of e-waste each year —more than double the global average — only 17.4% of this waste is properly recycled. The study also revealed that 70% of Australians would prefer their e-waste to be recycled within Australia, rather than shipped overseas. These findings underline the importance of local, transparent recycling systems that not only minimise environmental harm but also contribute to growing Australia’s circular economy. At Sircel, we are committed to closing this gap by offering end-to-end recycling solutions that meet these expectations and drive meaningful, long-term change. #eWaste #eWasteRecycling #CloseTheLoop #CircularEconomy #AustralianCircularEconomy

A circular economy ensures that valuable materials are continuously reused, reducing the reliance on virgin resources and minimising environmental harm. Our large-scale, in-country e-waste recycling process plays a crucial role in this system by recovering high-quality materials from e-waste and returning them to the manufacturing supply chain. We are diverting up to 100% of e-waste from landfill while supporting more sustainable products to be manufactured, and helping businesses meet their ESG goals. By embracing the circular economy, we can all drive long-term environmental, social and economic benefits. #CircularEconomy #ESG #ResourceRegeneration #ESGGoals #Sustainability

Awareness around e-waste is surprisingly low, despite it being highly problematic and the fastest-growing waste stream on the planet. Sircel’s consumer research revealed that while 52% of Australians are familiar with the term ‘e-waste,’ many underestimate the scale of the problem. Most believe their e-waste ends up in local landfill, when in fact, a significant portion is exported and improperly handled overseas. This lack of awareness highlights the urgent need for public education on ethical e-waste disposal and the importance of partnering with legitimate, ethical onshore recyclers. Sircel is leading the charge in transforming e-waste management by offering transparent, local solutions that ensure valuable materials are recovered and reused responsibly. It's always our pleasure to host industry experts, like the team at Inside Waste au. We regularly give clients, partners and media a 'peek under the hood' at our large-scale, mechanical recycling operations -- transparency and collaboration is the only way to "make better possible".
Great to catch up with Anthony Karam at Sircel Limited's facilities in Sydney. A company doing great things when it comes to e-waste and making sure they are playing their part in creating a circular economy. #ewaste #ciruclareconomy
