  • Navigating Challenges in Remote Operations – Dedicated to the Extreme Operating in remote locations comes with unique challenges, and Weipa is no exception. This photo is a stark reminder of the supply chain disruptions caused by severe weather and logistical constraints. When the shelves are empty, it’s not just an inconvenience; it directly impacts the teams who keep vital operations running. With eight vessels in Weipa, our crews rely on consistent supplies to maintain operations and, quite simply, to be fed. Their adaptability, resilience, and problem-solving mindset in the face of these challenges are what make them exceptional. At Smit Lamnalco, we are dedicated to the extreme, and our people prove that every day. A huge thank you to our crews for their commitment, flexibility, and teamwork as we navigate these hurdles together. #DedicatedToTheExtreme #RemoteOperations #Resilience #SmitLamnalco

  • Aligning Strategy for 2025: Smit Lamnalco’s Senior Leadership Team Workshop Last week, we brought together the senior leadership team of Smit Lamnalco to align our Australia and PNG region's strategic priorities with the broader global business strategy. With 2025 underway, it was a valuable opportunity to step back, assess our direction, and ensure that we are well-positioned for the challenges and opportunities ahead. The sessions were expertly facilitated by John Hale, a well-known strategy expert, who helped guide insightful discussions and challenge our thinking. A big thank you to everyone who contributed to the sessions. The engagement, collaboration, and forward-thinking approach of the team were fantastic to see. Exciting times ahead as we put these strategic plans into action! #SmitLamnalco #Strategy2025 #Leadership #MaritimeExcellence #Teamwork

🚢 Our new emergency response towage capability, Reef Keeper, launched in Cairns earlier this month. Operated by Smit Lamnalco Australia & PNG, Reef Keeper is an enhanced capability that is faster and more powerful than our previous towage vessel, Coral Knight. Our Executive Director – Response, Mark Morrow, and Manager of our Asset Management and Preparedness team, Michael Wytcherley, recently met with David Fethers, Evan Milne, Jordan Bennett, and David McDonough from Smit Lamnalco Australia & PNG to see off Reef Keeper prior to its first rotation earlier this month. We protect some of Australia’s most precious marine environments through this emergency response capability. Keen to find out more? https://lnkd.in/gCrB6pEk #AMSA #SafeSeas #CleanSeas #ReefKeeper

  • Celebrating NAIDOC Week at Smit Lamnalco At Smit Lamnalco, we are proud to honour and celebrate NAIDOC Week. This special week is dedicated to recognising the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. To show our respect and support, our offices and tugs have proudly flown the Australian, Aboriginal, and Torres Strait Islander flags. These flags symbolise our commitment to acknowledging the rich cultural heritage and contributions of Indigenous Australians. NAIDOC Week is an important time for all Australians to learn about and celebrate the enduring traditions and histories of the world's oldest living cultures. We encourage everyone to take part in the various events and activities happening across the nation. Here are some snapshots of our tugs and offices adorned with these meaningful flags. Together, we stand in solidarity and respect, fostering an inclusive and understanding community. #NAIDOC2024 #SmitLamnalco #IndigenousCulture #Respect #DiversityAndInclusion

  • What began as a week of work experience in 2023, has now turned into a school-based Marine traineeship for MED2. Montana Fordham, a determined and intelligent young student at Western Cape College in Weipa, is forging her career path with help from Smit Lamnalco. Montana has her sights sets on the engineering field and we hope to assist her on her journey. On Thursday, Montana, along with both her parents, Smit Lamnalco local management and HR, and Mas Experience, signed up for the traineeship. According to AMSA, approximately 5% of the entire Australian maritime workforce is made up of women, so Montana is helping to forge a pathway for young women in Australia to follow a similar career path. Since 2019 Smit Lamnalco has been committed to increasing female representation within the maritime Industry. In the past 5 years the number of female employees has risen from 3% to almost 10% of its total crew employees. This includes both female marine trainees and apprentices. Smit Lamnalco wishes Montana all the best in this traineeship, and we look forward to working together over the next two years. ⚓

  • 2024 Western Cape College Career Expo Smit Lamnalco Weipa crew and management attended the 2024 WCC Career Expo. The students were engaged and interested in furthering their knowledge of the available industries and job opportunities in Weipa. Crew demonstrated rope work, knot tying, and described their jobs, which the students really enjoyed. This a great annual community event which Smit Lamnalco is proud to be a part of.

  • A photo of an operation to tow a stricken LNG vessel to safety has won an international award. The International Harbour Masters Association (IHMA) held their annual Congress in Morocco recently, and announced this photo as Port Operations Photograph of the Year.  The image shows the LNG Carrier CESI Qingdao being maneuvered by our tugs from a LNG Terminal at the Port of Gladstone. The vessel had broken down while in port and was towed to the anchorage where it was eventually towed out of Australian waters to return to an international port for repairs.  The tow operation was a collaborative effort which involved MSQ, Gladstone Marine Pilot Services, SMIT Lamnalco and the LNG Terminal, APLNG. The photo was captured by Tim Cheetham from Aerial Media Gladstone.
