Funding research; promoting education and awareness, advocacy & providing holistic support to the sarcoma community

About us

Sock it to Sarcoma! is a health promotion charity based in Western Australia. First set up in 2012, it was the vision of young Perth woman Abbie Basson following her own diagnosis of Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare primary cancer of bone and soft tissue. She found that sarcoma was vastly under-funded in research funding for new and less toxic treatments, overall survival was lower than for common cancers particularly for children, adolescents and young adults and she set out to change this. Initially set up in partnership with Hollywood Private Hospital Research Foundation, it set up as an independent charity at the end of 2015. The Foundation supports medical research into sarcoma, working with local medical research institutions and universities via PhD top-up scholarships and project grants; promotes education and awareness in the community and medical profession about sarcoma and advocates for and provides holistic support to people diagnosed with sarcoma and their families.

  • In our world, we know that we try to look out for each other along the journey all the time. However, it never hurts to highlight RU OK day as a reminder to look out for those around us who may not have obvious reasons for us to check in with them. It could be anyone ……

Executive Director Sock it to Sarcoma!

The Shaw and Partners Foundation recently made a generous $10,000 donation to Sock it to Sarcoma!. This donation holds special significance as it was nominated by Garry Giblett, whose wife Julie lost her battle with sarcoma in 2010. Garry and his daughter Courtney have been long-time supporters of the foundation, with Courtney raising over $21,000 in 2013 by shaving her head in honour of her mother. We are so very grateful for this wonderful support.

Very humbled to be apart of the Shaw and Partners team, celebrating the milestone of $10 million dollars donated to #Australian #Charities, since our 2015 inception. In Perth we've got underway in a big way, by getting behind the phenomenal causes of zero2hero and the Starlight Children's Foundation Australia. Both incredibly deserving recipients for the work they each do in supporting our kids well-being in the community. Though today was my turn, where Brent, Robbie & I selected Sock it to Sarcoma! Stay tuned for the rest of the week, as there's more exciting news to come!! #HaveFunLiveLifeGiveBack #SupportingKids 🧡 🖤
