Did you know that there are an estimated 41,000 people experiencing modern slavery in Australia today and 50 million worldwide? This may be quite shocking for most Australians. The good news is that SCC NSW & ACT is committed to assessing and addressing the risks of modern slavery in its own supply chain and operations. We do this in keeping with Catholic Social Teaching and to comply with Australia's Modern Slavery Act 2018. The other good news is that we do this work as a proud member of the Australian Catholic Anti-slavery Network (ACAN), the largest anti-slavery response in Australia. Today, International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, and every day, together we are taking action to #endslavery in our world. #EndSlavery #ModernSlaveryAct #HumanRights #CatholicSocialTeaching #InternationalDayForTheAbolitionOfSlavery Australian Catholic Anti-slavery Network (ACAN)

Movember shines a light on the critical issue of men’s health. At Southern Cross Care, we’ve marked Movember with education sessions, a Mufti and Mo Day, and reminders about our TELUS Health program, which offers mental, financial, physical, and emotional wellbeing support to our employees and their families. Men’s health shouldn’t only be a focus this month but every day. Let’s keep the conversation going and continue supporting men’s health together. #Movember #MensHealth #SupportMensHealth #MentalHealthMatters #Wellbeing #AgedCareAustralia Movember

Happy 101st Birthday, Helena! Our beloved centenarian celebrated her special day with cake and surrounded by residents and staff at her home at Thornton Park Residential Care. Helena reflected on her remarkable journey, sharing that her happiest memory was arriving in Australia after fleeing war-torn Germany in 1949. “We travelled with my two very young children and stayed in a refugee camp in Orange until we found work which I did in a factory in Penrith and stayed there for many years,” she reminisced. “Coming to Australia saved us from great hardship.” She said there’s no secret to reaching such a grand age, just “work hard, love your family and believe in God”. We’re sending all our love and warm wishes your way, Helena! #101YearsYoung #CentenarianCelebration #ThorntonPark #AgedCareCommunity #LifeStories

With the warmer months upon us, the residents at Greystanes have been getting creative and crafty! Recently, they took part in a fun craft project making beautiful sun catchers. The excitement in the room was contagious as everyone got involved, carefully selecting colours and designs that spoke to them. The process was not only fun but also a wonderful way for residents to express their creativity and enjoy each other’s company. And their vibrant creations aren’t just lovely to look at; they’ll brighten up their rooms and bring a splash of colour and joy as sunlight dances through them. It’s amazing how such a simple craft can bring so much happiness and brighten up the living space. #AgedCareActivities #PurposefulLiving #CraftingHappiness #AgedCareAustralia

Over the past two days, around 100 inspiring leaders from Southern Cross Care NSW & ACT gathered in Sydney for our annual conference, united by our shared purpose to transform lives and create meaningful change in the care sector. This year’s theme, Better Care, Built Together, fuelled powerful reflections on our incredible achievements over the last year and ignited bold ideas for the future. We’ve made great strides in improving care quality, workforce development, and sustainability, while continuing to invest in cutting-edge technologies, professional growth, and our transformative Living Care Action Plan. Together, we’re shaping a future where care is not only better but more inclusive, sustainable, and impactful. Our time together also gave us the chance to celebrate the dedication, passion, and hard work of the teams and individuals who make it all possible - empowering our residents and clients to live life to the full. We were honoured to hear from thought leaders like Tom Symondson, CEO of Aged & Community Care Providers Association, Tanya Buchanan, PhD GAICD, CEO of Dementia Australia, Toni Arndell , MBA, National Engagement Manager of ELDAC aged care, and Dr Virginia Mapedzahama, PhD from the Diversity Council Australia Ltd, who shared invaluable insights into the evolving aged care sector. A huge thank you to the amazing team from the Commonwealth Bank’s Sydney CBD office for volunteering their time at our Daceyville Residential Aged Care home recently! After the success of their first volunteering day at our Marsfield home, they came together again to roll up their sleeves and spruce up our Daceyville garden. The hardworking team spent the day weeding, planting, painting, and building self-watering planters to create a relaxing and sustainable space for our staff, residents and their families to experience. The Commonwealth Bank enjoyed the day getting to know the residents and staff so much they have already booked to come back again in autumn. Your generosity has made a significant impact in the lives of our residents and staff, and we are very much enjoying seeing this partnership continue to bloom and grow. #volunteers #volunteersnsw #volunteering #CommonwealthBank #CommBankLife #MakeADifference Commonwealth Bank

We’re thrilled to have supported the 90th Grafton Jacaranda Festival! This special event attracts over 35,000 visitors annually and is a vibrant celebration of the jacaranda blooms and the richness of regional life. Our local Home Care team, Regional Managers, and Regional Director were proud to attend Community Day, engaging with the community, offering insights and guidance on Home and Residential Care options, and showcasing meaningful careers in aged care. At Grafton Residential Care, the festivities were bustling, including a gallery viewing to celebrate 90 years of the festival, maypole dancers, bus trips into town to see the beautiful jacaranda displays and a purple-themed fashion parade. #GraftonJacarandaFestival #SupportingCommunity #AgedCare #RegionalLife #ConnectingCommunities Xolani Maloi
