  • Spatial Vision has been addressing production challenges in the agricultural sector for many years, leveraging spatial and information technology. We have developed decision-support tools that often integrate online mapping with real-time satellite data to monitor changes over time. We assist those responsible for environmental management and policy development, enabling sustainable consumption and production practices in the agricultural sector. Through comprehensive analysis, augmentation, and visualisation, as well as app and platform development, we provide insights to inform decision-making for both in-field and offsite operations. • Funded by the Minderoo Foundation and in collaboration with the South East Councils Climate Change Alliance (SECCCA), Spatial Vision contributed to the Enhancing Community Resilience Project. The initiative aimed to help nine Melbourne municipalities build resilience to current and future climate impacts. Climate events such as extreme weather affect everyone, but the most vulnerable often face the greatest and most lasting consequences. A crucial step in building resilience is identifying and understanding these vulnerable populations. By mapping qualitative measures, value-based metrics, and climate data, the project quantified relative vulnerability within communities. Using a geographic case-study approach, the project assessed the impact of four climate change scenarios on vulnerable groups and capacity factors, including institutional, ecological, and physical assets. This method builds on previous community asset work by councils and provides a robust framework that is adaptable at both regional and national levels. • The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, and the Arts (DITRDCA) has launched the Drone Rules Map, which presents approximately 7,600 distinct restricted areas from 15 government agencies across Australia. With the dramatic rise in interest and usage of government, commercial, and recreational drone technologies over the past decade, there is a growing need for individuals and organisations to be aware of environmental and security restrictions that may apply to drone-related flight activities. Spatial Vision enhanced the accuracy of corrections facilities and the management of drone rule boundaries and attributes. Our solution integrated all relevant departmental data and fly-rule restrictions into a single authoritative point-of-truth database. Read the full case study here: https://bit.ly/41mqIJI

🌏 Navigating Australia’s New Climate Reporting Landscape 🌏 As of September 2024, Australia has introduced a mandatory climate reporting regime that will fundamentally reshape how organisations disclose climate-related risks and opportunities. This legislation requires entities that meet specific size thresholds to incorporate climate reporting into their financial disclosures. Key Highlights: Scope of Reporting: The new regime applies to all entities currently required to issue financial reports under Part 2M of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth). This includes both listed and unlisted companies, financial institutions, registrable superannuation entities, and registered investment schemes. Phased Implementation: The reporting requirements will be rolled out in phases. Starting January 1, 2025, the largest emitters (Group 1, approximately the ASX 200 and their private equivalents) will be the first to comply. Group 2 and Group 3 entities will follow suit from July 1, 2026, and July 1, 2027, respectively. Exclusions: It’s important to note that charities registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) and organisations registered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 are exempt. However, Not-for-profits (NFPs) meeting size thresholds will be included. Reporting Standards: Entities must disclose their climate impacts according to AASB S2, which aligns with the International Sustainability Standards Board’s climate standard (IFRS S2) and builds upon the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). This standard requires more detailed and quantitative disclosures of climate impacts over varying time frames. Board Oversight: Effective oversight from the board is crucial as this new reporting landscape presents significant reputational, legal, and strategic challenges. Opportunity for Resilience: Instead of viewing this regulatory change purely as a compliance obligation, boards should seize the opportunity to enhance organisational resilience and showcase their value in an increasingly decarbonising economy. As middle managers and leaders responsible for risk, sustainability, and climate reporting, your role is more critical than ever. Embrace this shift and lead your organisations toward a sustainable future. Together, we can make a significant impact on our environment and society. • The use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) has matured in the water authority sector. The adoption of geospatially informed real-time monitoring of operations is a powerful enabler for many authorities. Given that an Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAVs) or drone can capture data from the field 30 times faster and more easily than traditional onsite surveying or in person inspection methods, it is not surprising that their use is now well entrenched in many organisations.
