School’s nearly out for the summer – a perfect time to revisit our work at St Augustine’s College in Kyabram and see how students have settled into the new outdoor spaces. Our local Landscape Architecture team in Shepparton worked together with b3architects to create the halo courtyard and outdoor classroom for the school’s junior students. This collaborative effort is the latest phase realised in the overarching landscape masterplan we developed for the College in 2018. The careful selection of materials and planting was designed to fit within the surrounding heritage buildings and support the intention for connection and learning. How fantastic seeing the space full of life and colour!

Well done team Spiire Stache for an incredible effort this Movember! It’s that glorious time of year when Mos sprouted all around Spiire’s offices to raise money and awareness for men’s health. Together, we raised a huge $3370 to support men’s mental health, suicide prevention and the fight against prostate and testicular cancer. Great work to everyone who joined the cause, whether by sporting a Mo or donating to friends and colleagues. Spiire proudly matched the initial $1685 raised to double our team’s total. The Mos may be disappearing, but the impact will continue through Movember’s initiatives to change the face of men’s health. Until next year!

There’s a new bridge across Skeleton Creek in Bluestone, Tarneit! Once integrated with the surrounding road network, the bridge will open to traffic to improve connectivity within the area. Our team worked with Winslow on the delivery of the 32m single-span bridge. Given its proximity to neighbouring communities, we’ve been working closely with external stakeholders throughout design and construction. This essential link crosses Skeleton Creek, connecting Bluestone and a neighbouring estate to the south with Everton Road to the east, where Truganina Central Shopping Centre is located. Well done to everyone involved from our Civil Engineering, Construction Consultancy Services and Water Engineering teams for all your efforts at Bluestone, working with our client Satterley Property Group and main contractor Symon Bros Construction to bring the vision for the estate to life.

It’s game on at the regional sports complex in Jerrabomberra! Our Canberra Civil and Water Engineering teams joined forces with Huon Contractors Pty Ltd on the civil infrastructure to support the new Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council facility. Our team navigated the complex site, set between three existing channels including Jerrabomberra Creek, to produce designs that would meet the accreditation standards for elite sports fields. We worked together with multiple stakeholders to maximise the available space and design drainage while maintaining the flat surfaces required for the fields. Now with three football fields, one hockey field and the carpark operational, it’s a fantastic amenity for the surrounding region – including the neighbouring South Jerrabomberra community! Well done Benjamin Cargill, Nicholas Evans, Rachel Murdock and everyone in our Canberra office who contributed to the project.

Congratulations to the latest group who completed Spiire’s enhanced Inspiiring Leaders program! The program is made up of both virtual and in-person sessions, in an eight-week leadership journey designed to set our emerging leaders up for success. It was a pleasure working with Justine La Roche, a psychologist and leadership development specialist, to co-design and deliver an elevated program this year. Our focus was to create a learning experience that sticks. We were motivated by our shared commitment to closing the knowing-doing gap and wanted to move beyond the ‘one and done’ workshop model. Building on what’s worked in the past, we created a program that’s both practical and digestible. This year, our program focused on three core themes: Connect, Empower, and Succeed. It was fantastic to see team members from different disciplines and locations come together, to connect, and learn from one another in our face-to-face sessions. I’m truly ‘inspiired’ by this exceptional group who stepped out of their comfort zones and embraced each part of the program! Inspiiring Leaders is one part of Spiire’s holistic learning and development approach that supports people at all different stages of their career. "By disassociating our self-esteem from our external performance, and seeking validation from within, we all hold the power to get unSTUCK and become UNSTOPPABLE." This International Men's Day, we came together as a business to take part in a tailored Resilience and Well Being workshop by former Spiire Civil Engineer, Adam Ballard. A familiar face to many in our Melbourne team, Adam set out to follow his passion as a key contributor to the improvement and evolution of men’s mental health, as a Coach and Mentor with Uncommon Man Australia. With a focus on normalising conversations of support, Adam presented a highly interactive and engaging session, specially tailored to resonate with our diverse Spiire audience. The workshop shone a spotlight on the sobering statistics around men’s mental health in Australia, presented real examples of common mental health challenges within the workplace and provided tangible strategies to help us improve our own mental health. We especially enjoyed Adam’s guided meditation exercise to help us connect with the present moment. By continuing to highlight the importance of self-development and personal growth, we congratulate Adam on all he has achieved in his quest to help make the world a better place for ourselves, our families and future generations. A heartfelt thanks to our own mental health champion for inspiring us today! #InternationalMensDay #UncommonMan

More than 1000 lots titled at Botanical! What a milestone for our project team working with Satterley Property Group at this masterplanned community in Mickleham, in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. With Stages 17 and 20 recently receiving titles, civil works continue in the estate’s second neighbourhood, Evergreen. This neighbourhood has involved significant infrastructure upgrades including two signalised intersections, approximately 1500m of branch sewer and the first of Botanical’s three wetlands. We’re working closely with main contractor Symon Bros Constructions to complete these assets and Evergreen’s remaining stages. Construction has also commenced in Botanical’s third and final neighbourhood, The Willows, which will connect the two existing precincts and complete the 2400-lot community. Check out all the activity in this drone footage captured by our Surveying and Spatial team, where you can see the connection between the north and south beginning to take shape. Well done to everyone involved from our Civil Engineering, Construction Consultancy, Survey, Urban Design and Water Engineering teams for all your efforts at Botanical over the years!

When civil engineer Paul McLachlan joined Spiire’s Albury / Wodonga office, he was eager for a fresh start that would challenge his thinking and drive his continued development as an engineer. Originally from Canberra, Paul started his professional journey in Melbourne before settling in Beechworth with his young family to embrace the regional Victorian lifestyle. He then spent 11 years working in local government before making the move to Spiire in 2022. “I’m still being challenged every day to learn new things and taking on new responsibilities,” Paul says. “You have to be good at design, you have to project manage, go on site, work with clients and authorities – you do all of it. Being in a smaller team means the culture becomes one where everyone is happy to pitch in and help out.” Read more about Paul’s career and the close-knit team environment in our Albury / Wodonga office: https://lnkd.in/g6ech6Hk

Denman Village Park has landed! There was so much excitement among the crowd at the playground’s official launch over the weekend. Having watched this project evolve over many years, it was really special seeing the first young explorers discover some of the fun and quirky moments we designed in the astronomy-themed play space, now open in the heart of Denman Prospect. Taking a cue from the nearby Mount Stromlo Observatory, our team put their imaginations to the test to create a destination play experience, which we hoped would delight not only Denman’s youngest residents, but the wider Canberra community. Bringing these concepts to life was a true team effort. Well done Mika Lee, Steve Forrest, Ben Cargill, Susan Beff and everyone from the wider Denman project team, led by Spiire’s Canberra office. We worked closely together with our client Capital Estate Developments, main contractor RAM Constructions and the Fleetwood Urban team who built the ambitious play structures, including the eight-metre dome. Stage 1 of the park is open, but there’s more to come! Work is underway designing the next stages to bring more amenities to the Denman community. Watch this space!
