What a way to mark the end of 2024! Our visit to the Australian War Memorial’s new Southern Entrance was truly special. Almost six years since our competition win - the project is nearing its official opening; it was an incredibly emotional and rewarding experience to be among the first to see it nearing completion. A huge thank you to the Kane Constructions Pty Ltd team for accommodating us amidst the final works, and to the Australian War Memorial for entrusting us with this unforgettable project. It’s a privilege to contribute to something so meaningful that will leave a lasting mark on history. Adaptive Re-Use & Addition A thriving city balances economic vitality, sustainability, and inclusivity, seamlessly weaving infrastructure and governance to support urban prosperity. North Sydney CBD exemplifies this vision, with the Victoria Cross Metro Station catalyzing a wave of development. Amidst the growth, 20 Berry Street stands out as a testament to adaptive reuse. Once a dated 1970s commercial tower, it’s being transformed into a modern, sustainable hotel. By choosing reinvention over demolition, we conserve resources, reduce waste, and preserve the structure’s embodied energy—an approach that aligns with Holdmark Property Group's sustainability targets. The design pays homage to the area’s architectural heritage with a striking brick façade, harmonizing with local landmarks while introducing contemporary features. This project not only revitalizes an aging building but also contributes to the city’s dynamic future, supporting a vibrant 18-hour economy and a “Live, Stay, Work & Play” ethos. DA Approved today!   As we all paused today to watch a horse race, we received the formal DA Approval for a new Retirement Living development for our client, the Campbelltown Catholic Club.  Designed by Studio.SC, the project forms part of long-term masterplan commitment that compliments the Club, Exhibition Centre, Rydge's Hotel, and Fitness Centre.   As a complimentary offer to the Club's mixed-use civic precinct, the project includes 92 retirement living dwellings, a diverse range of common facilities and landscape communal offers designed by NewScape Design. The project incorporates the renewal of the heritage significant Emily Cottage. Built between 1823 and 1827, Emily Cottage is one of the oldest buildings in Campbelltown and will be restored by Studio.SC and Urbis Heritage as a unique communal space for the residents.  Located opposite the soon to be expanded Campbelltown Arts Centre, we are very proud of our long-term relationship with our client - in supporting their continued commitment to the Macarthur community and the preservation of a culturally significant precinct. There is a great need for retirement living in Sydney's southwest, and this project and other recent DA submissions, are an important element of our design practices' dedication to creating and delivering a variety of housing choice, through our in-depth knowledge of the NSW Housing SEPP.   With dignity and a sense of belonging to their community, locals can age in place, engaged and connected to the history of Campbelltown. Studio.SC Ironbark Apartments claimed the top honours for the Affordable Housing category at the inaugural National Apartment Awards for Excellence, by the Australian Apartment Advocacy (AAA). Held in Brisbane last week, the awards recognised 23 winners across 15 categories for their contribution to apartment living and the value they play in providing the community with housing choice.   Congratulations to our Client City West Housing Pty Ltd for their headline project that integrates a community of 75 dwellings into the broader Harold Park urban renewal precinct. With the project now four years old it is rewarding to see the care and love the residents have for their community, in apartments that were purpose designed for a sustainable and affordable model of living. Critical now more than ever in our nation’s housing supply challenges.   Hats off to Sam Reece of the AAA for the hosting of the event and more importantly the ongoing advocacy for the multi residential market they undertake, including research with apartment owners and residents so as to advise government and developers about the needs of the apartment community and housing choice.  Read more about Ironbark here: https://lnkd.in/gr9nBWCA
