This is fabulous and we wholeheartedly agree!
Midland: The New Dalkeith? Absolutely. Let’s be honest—Midland is stepping into its main character era. Some call it “the new Dalkeith,” and honestly, we’re leaning all the way into it. Why? Because this place is buzzing with growth, opportunity, and character while staying true to its roots. At my business Crooked Spire Coffee & Art House, we’re not just watching this transformation; we’re living it. We’ve got “Midland the New Dalkeith” splashed across the wall of our building, on the T-shirts we wear (and sell), and in every cup of coffee we serve. It’s not just a slogan—it’s a little wink to Midland’s glow-up and a reminder that this community has always been something special. Pop in for a chat, grab a coffee, and maybe a T-shirt while you’re at it. Let’s keep Midland moving, growing, and being unapologetically itself. —Mike Matich President, Swan Chamber of Commerce Owner, Crooked Spire Coffee & Art House #MidlandTheNewDalkeith #CrookedSpire #CommunityOnTheRise

Last night’s Sundowner was a warmhearted and relaxing way to end a year of Swan Chamber of Commerce events, meetings, networking, advocacy and growth. We are truly appreciative of our community. Thank you to everyone who made it last night and to those who sadly had to skip it. The pics, generously shared by Michelle, speak volumes. 🥰

Welcome to our four new members to the Swan Chamber of Commerce Committee: Shane & Leanne Wilcox, who have been the Principal Facilitators of the Hour of Power over the last few years, and 2023 Business Persons of the year. Shane & Leanne truly reflect a dynamic rarely seen in business. As a married couple, who seamlessly serve others while they build their own business, they bring so much to the Swan Chamber. What a great example and encouragement they are. We are pleased to see both of them step up and take on more responsibility. Chris Bown, CEO of Thrive Integration has been invited to grow the ongoing project of connecting the employment of x-prisoners to the business industry. It’s a model that Chris has been working on for many years alongside Vice President, Gerry Hanssen. We are keen to assist as a business community. Alex Smilovitis, Head of Mathematics at Swan Christian College has been invited to take on the Jobs Galore Project that has taken off in the last two years. We are keen to connect more high school students with industry. In August 2025 we are planning yet another huge Jobs Galore Business Breakfast… and there’s even some fantastical talk of parachuting in guest speakers! Join the Swan Chamber in less than five minutes by going on the link. We warmly welcome our newest team members. Cr Cate McCullough was our final 2024 Hour of Power presenter, and what a way to wind up the year! Cate is definitely a community champion and you could sense her difficulty in sharing her passion in making a difference. Cate is a doer. As the principal facilitator of Ellenbrook Collective, Cate believes that the results speak for themselves. She works long hours and is committed to empowering the large team of volunteers at Ellenbrook Collective. Cate wears a number of hats to make a difference in her community. She has been a councillor at the City of Swan for nine years. A comment that stood out, and one that Cate clearly has had to wrestle with during her nine years as councillor, paraphrased ~ ‘People can be surprisingly cruel under the banner of the greater good…Developing a tough skin but maintaining a soft heart is key.’ Cate sees all her experiences as part of her leadership development in her continued desire to contribute to the Social Capital of our community. Thank you Cate for your inspiring input. City of Swan SLW Transport Crooked Spire Coffee House

At 65 years old, Alex Smilovitis talked about the challenges and opportunities as he approaches the age of retirement. At November’s Hour of Power, Alex showcased his passion to connect with the next generation and his ability to use technology, AI and music as tools to stay relevant with our youth. Alex shared from his heart his vision for the next few years. Next year, rather than retire from his vocation or hold onto his position as Head of Math at Swan Christian College, he has decided to pivot and go back to basics. Alex is keen to take on a new role within the trade centre at Swan Christian College, teaching math and connecting students to industry. Alex has also joined the Swan Chamber board as our latest member to apply his passion by taking on the portfolio, ‘Jobs Galore’ to the next level. We are very excited to see what 2025 has in store!
