This report focuses on the 2023–24 Consolidated State Financial Statements of the New South Wales General Government Sector and Total State Sector, which comprise the Total State Sector Accounts. The Auditor-General for New South Wales, Bola Oyetunji, has tabled in NSW Parliament a report titled ‘State agencies 2024’. This report contains the results and key themes from our audits of state agencies’ financial statements for the year ended 30 June 2024. Recommendations are made to improve controls and processes in financial reporting, financial management, risk management, shared service arrangements and capital projects. Our Deputy Auditor-General, Claudia Migotto and Governance Officer, Taylor Powell recently addressed attendees at the NSW Integrity Agency Staff Symposium, organised by the NSW Ombudsman. The Auditor-General for New South Wales, Bola Oyetunji, has tabled in NSW Parliament a report titled ‘Road asset management in local government’. This report assessed whether three councils (Clarence Valley Council, Gwydir Shire Council and Wollondilly Shire Council) had effectively managed their road assets to meet the needs of their communities. The report makes detailed findings and recommendations to each audited council, and identifies key lessons for the wider local government sector. We’ve been lighting up the Audit Office with Diwali celebrations since 2012 and marked our 13th year this week, led by Kamal Colah and opened by Deputy Auditor-General Claudia Migotto. Diwali, or Deepavali, marks the start of the Hindu New Year according to the lunar calendar. It’s the ultimate face-off: good versus evil, light versus darkness, and light always wins! We enjoyed a day filled with colour, tradition, delicious food and fun games, including trivia and ‘housie’ (or Indian bingo).
