Coercive control is a pattern of controlling and manipulative behaviours within a relationship. There are 12 signs of coercive control: 1. Isolating you from your support system. 2. Monitoring your activity throughout the day. 3. Denying you freedom and autonomy. 4. Gaslighting 5. Name-calling and severe criticism 6. Limiting access to money and controlling finances. 7. Coercing you, to take care of all the domestic duties 8. Turning your children against you. 9. Controlling aspects of your health and your body. 10. Making jealous accusations about the time you spend with family or friends 11. Regulating your sexual relationship 12. Threatening your children or pets as an extreme form of intimidation. In August 2024, the second month of the coercive control reforms, NSW Police recorded 33 incidents, up from 23 in July 2024. Each coercive control incident included an average of three controlling behaviours with the most common being harassment or tracking, shaming or humiliating, and threats or intimidation. 🍋🌳 At The Haven Nepean Women's Shelter, our backyard lemon tree is more than just a source of delicious fruit—it's a symbol of resilience, healing, and joy. 🌿💛 In many cultures, lemon trees represent abundance, protection, and purification. Their vibrant yellow fruit is seen as a beacon of optimism and positivity. Our lemon tree, flourishing since before we opened in 2018, embodies the strength and renewal we strive to provide for the women and children we support. Its growth mirrors the journey towards healing and new beginnings. Next time you're enjoying a lemon, think of our steadfast tree and the hope it symbolizes for all seeking refuge and renewal. 🍋✨ #TheHaven #empoweringwomen #endviolence #endviolenceagainstwomen #endviolenceagainstchildren #domesticviolence #penrithcommunity
