As we celebrate International Women's Day this year, we’re shining a light on the barriers women face in leadership – and, more importantly, how we break them down. In a powerful thought piece for Campaign Brief, our Director of PR, Stakeholder Engagement and Misinformation, Justine Sywak, unpacks the systemic challenges holding women back – from confidence gaps, to structural biases. But this isn’t just about identifying the problem – it’s about driving real change. Diversity isn’t a checkbox. It’s a game-changer – for businesses, for creativity, and for society. Let’s mentor, sponsor, and lift each other up. Let’s challenge the norms and reshape the future of leadership. The future of creative leadership isn’t just female – it’s brilliantly diverse. And we all win when we embrace it. 🔗 Read the full piece in Campaign Brief: https://lnkd.in/gsab8RKQ #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2025 #Leadership #Diversity #WomenInLeadership #BehaviourChange #shannonbehaviourchange #behaviourchangeagency

We inspire change, willingly and for good.
About us
We're a Behaviour Change communications company. We create ideas by studying the way people behave and how they feel, rather than telling them how a product will make them feel. We use behavioural insights to create strategies and work that inspires people to change their attitude and behaviour for the better. The academic world has decades of work to draw on and is continually improving its understanding of human behaviour and how to influence it. To tap into this knowledge and expertise we established BehaviourWorks Australia with Monash University. BehaviourWorks, a research institute of which we are a founding partner and funder, is dedicated to the global study and research of Behaviour Change. We inspire change, willingly and for good. There is a double meaning behind those words 'for good'. The Behaviour Change we set out to inspire has two aims. It is change that is 'good' for individuals, families, communities and, increasingly, business. It is also change that is 'good' because it is long lasting and often permanent. That's why we work only with people who desire to improve the lives of others. We apply rigour, when others will not. Collaborate with academic partners, which others can not. Act with empathy, when others might not. And measure ourselves on actual change, when others do not. So let's inspire change, willingly and for good. Together.

Love a good plot twist? BehaviourWorks Australia at Monash University, in partnership with Australia Reads, just uncovered one: nearly half of Australians want to read more - but life keeps throwing distractions, time crunches, and book-finding struggles their way. This latest research sorts readers into six quirky categories, from page-turning pros to those who wouldn’t crack a book if it were made of chocolate. The good news? With the right mix of accessibility, irresistible stories, and daily reading habits, we can turn more people into happy bookworms. Big cheers to the team for helping Australia fall in love with reading all over again! 📚✨ Read about it in today's The Guardian https://lnkd.in/gtabn9_S #behaviouralscience #behaviourchangeaustralia #shannonbehaviourchange #australiareads #readmorebooks #lovetoread

Our Digital Strategist, Marisa L., shares her thoughts on Meta’s latest move to end third-party fact-checking, which raises big questions about the future of misinformation on social media in Australia.
Senior Digital Strategist | Account Director | Purpose-Driven Behaviour Change | Misinformation Unit | Community & Stakeholder Engagement | Crisis Management
Meta Drops Fact-Checking: What’s Next for Australia? Today, Meta announced, starting in the US, it would be ending its third-party fact-checking program, citing a shift toward promoting "more speech" and fewer "mistakes." While the intent may be to foster open dialogue, this decision raises serious concerns about the unchecked spread of misinformation on platforms like Facebook and Instagram, particularly in Australia. Australians are already aware of the risks posed by misinformation. Shannon Behaviour Change released its State of Change 2024 report, with the research showing nearly half of Australians encounter misleading information regularly, with 85% coming across it at least occasionally. Social media is a significant contributor, with 31% of people admitting to sharing false or misleading content from these platforms. Without independent fact-checking, false narratives could spread more easily, potentially influencing public perception on critical issues such as elections, public health, and social policies. The broader impact on trust is troubling. Many Australians believe misinformation undermines public confidence in the systems and institutions that shape society. Removing fact-checking mechanisms could further weaken this trust and deepen societal divides by amplifying unverified or extreme views. Platforms risk losing credibility as reliable information sources, and the responsibility increasingly falls on individuals to navigate this complex environment. Addressing these challenges requires collective action. Education programs can help individuals identify and question unreliable information. Encouraging engagement with trusted news sources, combined with government-led initiatives to improve platform accountability, could also play a role in reducing the prevalence of misinformation. Ultimately, combating this issue will require a mix of informed individuals, reliable institutions, and effective oversight. Meta’s decision is a turning point in the fight against misinformation. While the intention may be to support free expression, it highlights the urgent need for action to protect the integrity of the information Australians consume and share. By working together, governments, organisations, and individuals can help maintain trust in public discourse and support a more informed society. The abandonment of Australia’s proposed misinformation legislation underscores the unchecked spread of false information, particularly on social media, which poses severe risks to democracy, public health, and social trust. However, it should not signal the end of efforts to address online misinformation but rather underscore the need for more nuanced strategies that balance free speech concerns with platform accountability. Our State of Change Report revealed 80% of Australians agree misinformation corrodes trust, three out of four support legislation to combat it, and many frequently encounter information they suspect to be false.

Our crew joined thousands across Victoria to participate in Respect Victoria's Walk Against Family Violence today, a powerful demonstration of solidarity and commitment to creating a state where everyone is safe, equal, and respected. Shannon Behaviour Change have been longtime supporters and collaborators of Respect Victoria and this important event launched Victoria’s involvement in the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, amplifying the call to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls. Each step taken was a stand for survivors, a call for justice, and a pledge to challenge inequality and discrimination in all its forms. Together, we sent a clear and united message: violence has no place in our homes, communities, or society. Let’s continue to walk the path toward a safer, fairer, and more respectful future for all. 🌏💜 #WalkAgainstFamilyViolence #16DaysOfActivism #EndGenderBasedViolence #SafeAndEqualVictoria #Respect #CommunityAction #ShannonBehaviourChange
