Andrew McKellar explains on Sky News Australia that the disappointing MYEFO figures reflect a “two speed economy".     “We're seeing the private sector really bouncing along the bottom. The public sector is going through the stratosphere,” said Mr McKellar.

Speaking to Tom Connell on Sky News Australia this afternoon, ACCI CEO Andrew McKellar said that from a business point of view the government's Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook indicates there is a structural deficit back in place.  "If we're going to get out of that we need an agenda for growth, we need to really see the private sector taking over more of the strain and freeing up the burden to see growth and productivity going," said Mr McKellar Watch the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/gSPba46x

The latest ACCI-Westpac Industrial Trends Survey has found that the manufacturing sector lost momentum at the end of this year but expect some pick up into the new year.  Westpac economist Ryan Wells said that while manufacturers were able to find some pockets of demand through mid-year, that support looks to have dried up as the year drew to a close.    Speaking to media at Parliament House this morning, ACCI CEO Andrew McKellar said that the survey results are consistent with the broader economic figures of anaemic economic growth and falling productivity. “With just a fifth of manufacturers able to increase prices to offset increased costs, the cost of doing business continues to rise for Australian businesses," said Mr McKellar.  See the media release and full report ➡️ https://lnkd.in/g3d5TJKp Read the transcript of Mr McKellar's joint doorstop with Westpac Senior Economist Pat Bustamante ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gQcJz348

Australia’s reputation is the biggest advantage for exporters trading globally, an Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ACCI) survey found. “Australia’s positive reputation is a big plus for businesses conducting trade. ACCI Director of Skills, Employment and Small Business, Jodie Trembath PhD, was appointed Co-Chair of the Jobs and Skills Australia Education and Training Reference Group this week. The Reference Group reports to the JSA Ministerial Advisory Board, on which Jodie also sits. It was set up to provide advice on how the Tertiary Education system intersects with JSA’s remit of analysing and providing advice to government on current, emerging and future workforce, skills and training needs and priorities.   #WorkforceSkills #EducationAndTraining #FutureOfWork
